We are sitting in our " Fort Worth" on our inaugural 2 night camp and excitedly planning future trips! We regularly go to Portland , last full weekend in July , for the Oregon Brewers Festival....staying in hotels and decided to take a couple of weeks now that we own Our first trailer and thought of also going to Bend Oregon. Question is does anyone have recommendation of where to camp? Or where to camp close to Portland? Cheers Janet!:)

Janet:

We have camped many times at Tumalo State Park which is close to Bend. It is a small campsite, and serviced sites book up early especially in the summer. It is beautifully situated and a great place to camp. See Oregon State Parks and Recreation: Rates Some photos from our most recent visit: Around Tumalo Oct 2012 - a set on Flickr

A nice campsite close to Portland is Champoeg State Heritage Area. See Oregon State Parks and Recreation: Rates This is a wonderful location and a well maintained park. Our most recent visit here: Champoeg Fall 2012 - a set on Flickr

Oh great, we are already booked into both those parks in August during our trip to Yosemite.

Have just had our solar installed so no worries about serviced sites!!!

I stayed at Tumalo State Park in May, 2011 & enjoyed the park. Be sure to get out to the Tumalo Reservoir. Beautiful in the morning light with the "3 Sisters" behind it. Also, the falls is worth visiting.

Some photos of the park ( the reservoir and the falls on the next 2 pages).

It looks like you are getting good suggestions for a place to stay. We stopped by in Bend last October and went to McMenamins where they have a lovely soaking pool that is open to the public. A nice way to wind down the day! I remember having a great double IPA in the pub as well.

They also have a First Friday Art Walk in Bend. If you time it right this is a fun event to experience. The stores remain open downtown and there is an almost carnival like atmosphere in the streets. Well worth fitting into your schedule!

Although 25 mins. south of Bend LaPine State Park is gorgeous. Set amongst Lodgepole Pines it has the Dechutes River winding through the park and there is a multitude of walking and biking trails that can be taken right from your campsite.

We stay there often and find the older section of the park nicer as the campsites are set further apart from each other compared with the newer section.

Thanks everyone for all the great info! I guess now we will look the parks up and decide.

Brian, Jon thanks I have looked up Tumalo and it looks like a place we would like to go to .

thanks Donna, we do hope to find a RV park closer to Portland and being able to go downtown with the Maxx would be the best option as we do plan on partaking in imbibing some fine beers

We did stay at Champeog 30 years ago....our very first camping trip in a little pup tent !!
