Bike rack receiver

except maybe think about just using sheet metal shims and one of those clamps that way you can take it off when you don't want it sticking out.
I once had a bike rack that fit loosely in my receivers. I used some aluminum shims to make it fit. I zip tied them to the rack so I didn’t lose them if they fell out, which they didn't. They worked for all the years I had the rack and went with it when I sold it.

I can do that for sure, but not ideal every time you want to travel. I have decided to get an extension. Thanks for the suggestion though.

My existing bumper-mounted rack and e-bikes exceed the load limit of the 21C that we’ve just ordered. I probably wouldn’t want that much weight back there anyway, so I’m trying to find a tongue-mounted solution. There are racks that bolt onto an A-frame, but aren’t rated for the weight of two e-bikes. Even with the batteries removed. I’ll probably have a local welder create something that will give me a 2” receiver above the propane tank housing so I can use my existing rack, but… does anyone know of a factory rack that would fit on the tongue and support e-bike weight?

It's a matter of weight and balance.

Weight can be dealt with by adding secondary receivers. A good idea anyway as they stabilize the load.

Balance is easily dealt with; under mount the spare up forward. 70# from the rear moved forward goes a long way towards keeping the tongue weight within limits.

Even with my large rear storage box my tongue weight stays the same.

That young guy, :) Jim B. manages to lift his bikes up on top of his rear storage box. My friend single handedly puts his heavy boat in the rear box. There's always a way.

Boy, I must be out of touch with prices, I was surprised at the cost of that bike rack.

I've seen this bike rake a couple different times in use, looks a little light weight.
My concern is lifting a 30+ lbs bike four feet in the air off to the side.

Thanks, that actually looks like a workable solution. For the price though it might still make sense to have custom-built a support structure that gives me a receiver higher than the tanks, and allows me to use my existing rack. Appreciate the link.
