Bunk bed alterations

Hi there,
We are soon to be new escape owners. I'm wondering what people have done to create a better bunk bed situation? For our family I don't think the cot is ideal. We are looking at 19 or 21.
I really want to find a way to make it work.
Thank you in advance!

We now have a 21C, but our first Escape was a 19 and we had the cot option. I never did much with it, but the anchor points for the cot that they add to the interior look like they will give you a place to start if you want to make something different than the fabric cot that comes with the kit from ETI.

As I recall they are solidly attached and should easily support the rated weight. It is probably worth a call to ETI to ask how sensitive the anchor points are to the overall weight rating for the cot. In other words is the cot limited to 200 pounds because of the actual cot material or is it because of the anchor points attached to the inside of the trailer.

While I've never seen many posts discussing the cot or other bunkbed solutions, I'm sure some industrious owner has done something over the years. Sorry I don't have a better suggestion.

It might help if you could offer a bit more info on the purpose, e.g. bunk bed to sleep 4 grandkids, or an extra adult, etc.

Thanks for the reply!

ETI sent me here to ask about what mods people have done.
You're right the brackets themselves are very secure.
That's basically where we're at right now is considering using the bars that ETI includes and swapping the fabric for a solid surface.
We're a family of 4 with small (rapidly growing!) kids. And I can foresee whoever is on the bottom, annoying whoever is on the top bunk with kicks and pokes lol.
I was just curious if anyone had come up with any alternate options. Thanks again

I have no idea where I first read it but somebody replaced the fabric cot with a plywood base and mattress. This seemed a little too permanent for me since the grandkids are only along occasionally. A nice, inflatable camp mattress over the fabric cot works fine but these guys are 8 and under, so not sure this would be helpful for your situation.

Yep - totally get that! "Dad, Johnny is kicking me!"; "Mom, Jenna won't stop poking me with her toy"; the list goes on!

The Escape rally is next week in Osoyoos BC, so if I see anything remotely close to addressing this in somebody's Escape, I'll drop you a note.
