I suppose the Nest won't have the drawbacks of higher weight and less economy, but then there's the price.

I agree - that's the normal trend, and the Nest is a deviation from that trend. It was definitely intended to be compact and light, but to spare no expense on the designer's desired style.

Well, the Nest kind of looks as if it is supposed to be a modern mini Airstream.

Based on what little Scamp Trailers has revealed approx 6-700+ trailers annually in the very early years, we've always estimated there are somewhere between 20-30,000 Scamps produced since the early 70's. Never have heard any numbers for Casita or Bigfoot.

Well, the Nest kind of looks as if it is supposed to be a modern mini Airstream.

The shades of glossy grey that were first used for the Nest encourage this comparison. I think the front window does, as well.

When Robert first introduced his design (which later changed quite a bit on the inside, but not so much on the outside) he named it "American Boler", rather than some play on "Airstream". He seemed to think that it conveyed the idea of an update and improvement of the Boler, rather than a downsizing and modernization of something like an Airstream. That name caught him quite a bit of flak, since he didn't have any rights to the Boler name and was not building a copy or continuation of any Boler model; he then wisely changed it.

Yes, and some really were Bolers - the Boler American - and the others are the Boler design. Robert's trailer was neither. In addition to the continuing Scamp and Casita there are still new Boler revival/update attempts; the latest which has actually produced some units without going broke is the Happier Camper HC1. I agree that the Nest is a substantially different design, and better aligned to Airstream.

I've never heard of nest until I read the article the other day regarding the purchase by airstream. At first I thought uh oh...competition for escape industries..and made in the US. Looked at the photos and I honestly wasn't impressed.

Too modern looking, no quaintness at all...and what's up with the folding chairs? AS needs to stick with their original thermos looking trailer body. Not sure I like the aerodynamic looking front hitch either, or the rear entrance.

Escape is still my choice.

Well, you go for it.
My buddy Keath and I will be spending tomorrow hosing off the cow dung from the underside of our trailers after leaving camp in cattle country. I presume none of that, or dust and dirt, will enter the tray.

This reminded me that I was going to post some photos I took while visiting a camping store in The Netherlands earlier this summer (Obelink https://www.obelink.eu/ is an IKEA on steroids ... .). One floor for "stuff", one floor for tents and such and the third floor for travel trailers. Can't remember if these trailers were 21' or 23'. (Note the refrigerator in the drawer and the "dutch" doors).

The "Dutch" feature is nice but my first impression of the door in the bottom picture was what was called 'suicide doors" in older cars. Fiddle with it at 60 mph and you'll do a face plant on the street.
