Camping with the dogs

Hi Folks
Getting ready to head south and we're taking the dog along this time, all 9 lbs of her. Wondering what folks are using to keep the dogs from going through the screen door other then not using it?

You may wish to try these ideas. I spray painted a stencil with glitter paint, (which I would not recommend as it "sheds") and it kept my late dog Wolf and I from going through the closed screen door. Of course, I extended the design to his eye level. ;D

Bob, what I did was to train our dog not to go through doors (of any kind) without being allowed to. For me, that was the easiest and simplest way to go. It is a great solution no matter where whether in the trailer, at home, or anywhere else.

Taking dogs on some trips sure does limit options as far as places one can go with them. It is unfortunately necessary due to some unruly dog owners. Jasper just loves camping, and would gladly do it for the rest of his life/

Some people use a needle and thread to make a design but Sandra's spray paint is much easier ---regular spray paint.

The paint idea would be cool, Deb would like the little hand prints, wonder if Dallas would get the idea.

Jim, I've heard you can teach old dogs new tricks, but there must be exceptions.

She needs help getting up on the couch these days so I put a wide single step in front of the couch and after many many times showing her what to do about half the time she just sits in front of it and looks at us.

I have two very active, rambunctious, young dogs that are Jack Russell Terrier/Blue Heeler mix. I decided on a two-week trip to just try using the screen door and see what happened. They completely recognized it as a door and didn't try to go through it! I would just tell them, stay there, I'll be right back, as I do when I go through any door and they would just run to the dinette to look out the window.

Now, to teach them to stay off the dinette table. It's a table, it's a bed, it's a table, it's a bed! They don't know the difference.

Exactly! The dogs see the screen way better than I do.

One of our dogs hit the screen once. That was it. Lesson learned. So far the other one hasn't tried it.

A needle and thread can be used to create a design on the screen. Also we close the cloth curtain we have, not sure if the 5.0 has that? The screen easily goes back in the track though.
Just make sure you take water from home, I find in traveling that is the one thing that keeps things down for them, their own water they are used to. I take a 5 g container on long trips and leave it in the shower while under tow.

Jasper did that once, but it was all my fault. I thought the screen was open, and it was just after dark, and I told him to go in, and he jumped right into it. He was a bit cautious for a few times after that going in or out when we told him too. Big oopsie.

Both my dog and I have accidentally tried going through the screen door. I now have a baby gate. Works great.
