Considering purchasing an Escape

We ordered our 2022 21C with extra captain's lights. All have usb, which is well worth it.


If you order yours with AC we strongly suggest getting the Houghton. It is quite quiet, normal conversation is possible.


Picked it up in Sumas, drove back to TX on the trailer ball with no problems. Biggest issue is to be sure hitch weight is correct. We had no sway. Installed prior owned wdh when we go home.


Ordered with 2 6v La batteries. With 190 solar panel we have never run out of power, and we boondock most of the time.

We have yet to run out of power. But we don't use much except on one trip where we were in a bit of scattered shade and had to run the heater at night. The fan takes some energy and during our 4 day stay we still had enough to get through it. Just could never get back to 100% during the next day. During the night we went down to about 90% +/- but would get back to 97% +/- the next day.

We have since purchased a 100 W portable panel to be able to reach out to the sun but have yet to use it.

We love the layout of the 21C. It checks all of the boxes for us. If we had one thing we would change, that would be spending more time Escaping.

We have the 190W rooftop solar and 2x100W portable panels. We have the portable panels wired directly to the battery rather than go through the Zamp port which goes to the on board solar controller. When using the onboard solar controller all the panels including the roof top would be in parallel. When one of those is in the shade all panels operate to the least efficient panel. By having the portables wired directly to the battery we can then chase the sun and not worry if the roof top panel is in the shade or not. Our portable panels came without a controller, so we wired in a separate controller in the storage box and that is wired directly to the battery.

Hi, caheaton. Just wanted to say hello to another (potential) Escape owner here in the Cincinnati area. We’re in Cold Spring, Kentucky near Northern Kentucky University. We’ve camped and kayaked at East Fork Lake close to you in Amelia.

We made the trek out to Sumas, Washington in June of 2022 to pick up our 21C. Like the other owners you met, we are very happy with our trailer. We’ve had virtually no trouble with ours - the only glitch so far being a faulty sail switch on the furnace, which is an easy fix (these things are notorious for failing on this model furnace, so recommend you have a spare on hand).

Before I would assume/decide that a sail switch is faulty, I would test it manually. I recently helped a 21 owner who said the furnace would not start and had examined the sail switch and found it clean so came to the conclusion it was bad. We accessed the sail switch and it was in fact not clogged with debris and it seemed to be moving from the “off” to the “on” position. So holding it in my hand, I told him to turn on the furnace and I manually pushed the sail switch to the on position. The furnace then fired up. The problem was that the “sail” was not catching enough air to push it all the way to the on position. We bent it slightly and reinstalled it, and the furnace worked as it should. I do not claim that this will always be the answer and I would recommend having a spare, but quite often RV appliance repairs can be fixed without replacing parts.

That sounds like good advice.

We haven't had issues with our seldom-used furnace to date. I've always meant to carry a spare sail switch but it keeps slipping my mind. Now would be a good time to pick one up.

I don't have my 5.0 or my trailer manuals here at home. Do you happen to know which sail switch works for the furnace in yours and my vintage of 5.0TA?.

Congrats! You won’t regret it. Good to have another Escape in the area. Have fun with the build sheet, then sit back and wait for your production photos. That’s a real thrill.

Congratulations! I think you got all your questions answered. You will have more. Ask them here this is an amazing group. I have had my trailer almost 2 years. 21C... I was also in that trepidation stage and is this the right decision? I had it delivered and that was expensive but wonderful. Enjoy the process! I have had a few problems with my trailer but I have been very pleased with the response from Escape and had no problem getting them fixed locally.
