Some of you may have visited Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park in Tn. Due to the historic flood created by hurricane Helene, it is closed and will be for the foreseeable future. As reported by a friend, "you cannot even tell there was a campground there". Several buildings completely destroyed. Based on other destruction I have witnessed I can believe it.

The power of water is incredible. Back in December 2005 the Taum Sauk Reservoir in Missouri failed and released 1.5 Billion gallons of water down the hill from 760 feet above Taum Sauk State Park. They estimated the peak discharge was 270,000 Cubic Feet Per Second. WOW!

It's a very popular park and unbelievably nobody was killed. Fortunately nobody was at the parked except for the Park Ranger, his wife and three children who were swept away but were found alive 1/4 mile downstream. Simply amazing!

Prayers to all those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

This video shows what it looked like 14 years later. It starts at the campground and those giant boulders were not there before the flood.

So sad what happened. We had a fiberglass rally every October for several years now, our reservations were cancelled. Don't know if they will be up and running next year, we will just have to keep checking.
I sure hope they rebuild the park.
