Dogs in trailers

I don't want to get on Ellen's sale thread.

Many campgrounds do not allow people to leave a dog in a trailer at all. Then there are the ones who do and the neighbors listen to them.

One person trying to take care of a dog while fulltiming is very difficult at best. It may be manageable for many if they only travel once in a while. It is totally different for a fulltimer. Unless a fulltimer is parked for months and has someone to constantly rely on (as she has with her son now), it would be hard to manage while travelling.

I expect Ellen has covered this with the vet and others. I don't think this is an uncommon problem.

We just traveled with 2 dogs across country for the third time, Franklin is 12 and Hershey is 8. Hershey is very calm and Franklin has panting issues as well as separation anxiety. Noel got hime a "Thunder" vest as well as some calming treats which seemed to help him calm down. We also found that they need more water when traveling.

It depends on all kinds of things. One is climate-I've had several who are fine left in crates in the car- but that requires that it is safe to do so. I've had some okay in crates but not loose in the trailer. Or okay in the trailer. Or okay in the trailer as long as nobody is close by the trailer (closing the shades may help.) I have one who will bark if I go outside the house without him but happily settles down in the trailer. (He is afraid of campfires so usually goes in when the fire is started.)

But generally I try to camp with friends who can watch the dogs for a few minutes. I can see where fulltiming would present different problems. It would make it more difficult to see the sights, for one thing. And separation anxiety definitely complicates things.
