We've traveled for many years with toiletry bags that are always packed and ready to go. They are 4.5 inches deep. The Escape Medicine Cabinet is 3.5 inches deep.

When we took out the medicine cabinet in our E19, we discovered there were 5 inches behind the wall that we could use for storage, so we rebuilt our medicine cabinet and, in the process, were also able to add small storage cabinets on other side of the wall in the dinette area.

This is a simpler version of that mod. We were pleased to find out when we got our 23 home recently and took out the medicine cabinet, that there are 5.5 inches of storage available!

DH constructed a box w/ 2 shelves and I covered all the surfaces w/ contact paper to water-proof. Installed and attached the box to the same 2x4 supports Escape had used for the medicine cabinet. Caulked the edges, attached weather stripping around the sides (black was all I had on hand), then reattached the medicine cabinet mirror to the wall and added a small magnet. Presto chango... our toiletry bags fit perfectly!

Nice. So how do you build a custom medicine cabinet? I'd love one that is deeper, keeps items on shelves, and doesn't pop open on bumps. I've made a mod to help with the later two, but it's imperfect.

That is a nice mod, but for us it really would not be needed. For those that bring lots of things it would be a great improvement. I need a razor and shaving gel, toothbrush and accessories, and deodorant and that takes little room. My wife is not a make up user so needs little space.

And to be honest, I made A LOT of modifications that I could have done without, but I could, so I did. :)

Thanks for posting here (I'm among the non-FB folks). ;)

I like your mod (y)

I'd enjoy the extra cabinet depth and the opportunity / excuse to tailor the shelves to my wants, I'll have to investigate to see if similar can be done in my 5.0.

Well done! I was going to remove our cabinet so I could install a switch for our composting toilet fan. I'll see if I have the space to do something similar.

Thanks for posting.

Hi Jim! Yep, we made a slew of mods to our E19, but loved every one of them. Guess we had to get a new Escape so we could start over again and continue to feed our mod addiction.

I did the vast majority of my mods when my 5.0TA was new, but did more since. I still have a list pretty long of things I would like to do. Most I really don't need, but we would like. No new trailer for us. :)

I'd love to have a medicine cabinet. The Classics don't have one. Dang. Nice job!
I would be it is an easy modification.. I am assuming the wall thickness is the same but that could be checked. As you likely know cutting a hole in the fibreglass is an easy thing to do with 4 screws.

While we have no need for a larger cabinet it is nice to have the one Escape installed.

That's a bit of a bummer . Unwilling to assume anything, I start imagining least-invasive ways to investigate the feasibility of a mod ...

Does your classic have a thermostat mounted on the narrow wall facing the loft in front of the wardrobe? IF yes, simply un-mounting that thermostat might expose holes to allow a bit of probing with a coat-hanger-wire to get a 'feel' for the space between the bath module and the wardrobe?

Alternately, a 1/8" hole carefully drilled inside the wardrobe for probing the available space between?

As always, just offering for your consideration, Have Fun! ;)

The medicine cabinet mod, installing one in a Classic, was done and posted several years ago. I believe that the medicine cabinet projected into the wardrobe space a couple of inches.

It's on the narrow wall of the hanging cabinet, facing the back of the trailer. Wouldn't help as it's not next to the bathroom.

I remember seeing that. I even think I've got the info captured in a spreadsheet. I remember looking for medicine cabinet to use and couldn't find one I liked well enough to attempt the mod. But that was then, and this is now. Maybe I'll look again and perhaps attempt that mod after I get back from Alaska. It's not that important right now.
