I posted this in the Facebook Escape Trailers group, but re-posting here for non-Facebookers. Sharing some of the changes we've made to our new E23. Recently road tested for three weeks and all performed well.

> Added peel & stick tile to kitchen wall (Amazon).
> Built a vertical dish storage unit that sits behind the stove.
> Added murals in galley area and bathroom (Amazon).
> Flipped the bathroom door and installed a slim, waterproof PVC floor cabinet with small countertop (Amazon).
> Built a new, deeper medicine cabinet for our toiletry bags.
> Added peel & stick tile border, towel rings, etc. in bathroom (Amazon).
> Added vanity mirror and flip down shelf in bedroom area (Amazon).
> Installed EZ Reach table mount (ez-reach.com) and a tri-fold table top (Etsy) in lounge area.
> Rotated all the shade assemblies so shades close from bottom up (Escape video).
> Sewed reversible slip-covers from quilted bedspreads for lounge area seats (Amazon).
> Built shelves and deep drawer into pantry.
> Added a number of hooks and bamboo storage solutions (Amazon). We chose the maple interior not only because we like the warm, wood look, but also because we knew from our previous E19 that bamboo storage options would blend well with the maple.

I took a tour of this trailer while at Dome Rock. The mods are beautiful. Penny and Charles are awesome people. After seeing their 23, we ordered one!

Penny,
Thank you for the shared photos. Beautiful !

If you would please share the Etsy link for the tri-fold table top, I would appreciate it. We will be updating our much-loved 2009 19 foot this spring, and I would like to incorporate this into our plans.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to add, my husband has built several folding table tops for previous campers that were beautiful, so I really hesitated on purchasing one, but went ahead with it because he already had a number of projects on his plate. When it arrived, I was so happy I'd ordered it. The quality is impeccable. It was worth every cent.

We just ordered a 23 and I really enjoyed seeing your photo gallery. Do you have sketches or plans on the stuff you made? Any details on off the shelf stuff you bought?

We are just day dreaming right now while we wait, but really like the stuff you did.

All off-the-shelf item resources are available as noted above.

I don't really have building plans for the kitchen storage. What I'll pass along to you is the schematic I created based on the size of items I wanted to store. My exact plan may not work for you because you will likely have different items and different sizes. Hopefully you can adapt what we've done to suite your needs.
  • Framing (red lines) is 1x4 maple, with the exception of the center horizontal piece which is 1x6, cut down to 1x4 under the left and right sections and retained as 1x6 in the center to serve as a shelf.
  • Dimensions shown are interior dimensions for each section.
  • There is a length of sheet metal flashing glued to the bottom of the top center horizontal piece of wood for magnetic hooks to hang cups.
  • The stars are where the unit is attached to the cabinets and countertop.
  • The entire unit was sealed with a couple of coats of clear varnish.
  • 4.25" high sections of black Lincane aluminum sheeting (Home Depot or Amazon) was attached to the front of all storage sections with small nails except for the center, horizontal shelf piece.
  • Entire unit is 36"W x 29.25"H.
Schematic in PDF format attached.

Love all your wonderful mods. You are very inspiring and so thoughtful to share so many details. Ian and I are very happy with our 19 but he is often having 2 foot (+) itis! We do spend up to 6 months/year in our 'Houdini'... So after seeing all your great photos we went to the ETI website and checked out the 23. We feel it might be harder to get into some of the spaces we like. I wonder if 4' more would really be an issue? Would love to hear from others who have jumped up to the 23 from a smaller one.
Anyway, thank you so much for your inspiration, for sharing so much and all the fabulous photos.

I know that story! We had our 19 for four years and had done so many mods to it. We were very attached to it. The thing that pushed us into looking at a different model was the size of the black tank. We'd wanted to boondock for longer than a 13 gallon black tank would allow.
For 8 months I lobbied for a 21C because I was worried the 23 would be too big. For 8 months my husband lobbied for a 23, saying that if we were going to give up our beloved 19, it wasn't to just get another 2 feet. Time was running out for us to place our order and get a new camper in time for Quartzsite, so I gave in and we ordered the 23. Am I ever glad I lost that "argument"!
Getting the 23 was one of the best decisions we've ever made. It's so roomy, so comfortable. The counter-space is amazing. And the storage! For the first 2 weeks I was losing things because there were too many storage options. Being someone who makes the bed 1st thing every morning, having the walk-around bed is wonderful. I could go on and on. And it tows beautifully.
You're in Longmont, correct? We're in Fort Collins. Come up and see our 23!

beautiful!

Replaced the "spit sink" and faucet in our E23 and added a counter...
Could not find a suitable larger replacement sink, so purchased a resin planter to use for the sink. Counter, backsplash and all support pieces are PVC. The new build is pretty much the same footprint that we had w/ the old sink and small cabinet that we'd been using. Also moved the TP holder 1.5" to the right so it didn't stick out into the room so much.
Faucet, sink, flexible drain, and PVC supply cabinet all purchased on Amazon. PVC building materials purchased at Lowes.

Thanks for these photos and inspiration! We just put our deposit on an E 23 F3 that was in inventory. You gave us a lot of great ideas for customizing ours when we get it.

Do you have the dimensions of the space where you put your mural by the bathroom? We won’t be getting our 23 for a while, but I want to commission a friend to paint something that I can hang there. Your mural is the perfect size so if I could just get the dimensions of that actually that would be great. We love your mods and are looking to try some of them for ourselves.

You're commissioning a painting for your 23? Wow - that's outstanding! The dimensions on my mural are 23.25 x 75. I sure hope I get to see your painting when it's completed. Keep me posted! 🎨🖌️

I really like the table you replaced what are the dimensions and are you pleased with it?

Thank you! We just got our E23 this week and talked with our friend about the painting (based on Psalm 23) it won’t take the entire space like your mural does, but I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. I will post a photo once it’s completed.
