You have to remember, we don't have snow plows. Two inches of snow shuts our city down. We have hills everywhere too! I live where they're talking about the wind... brrrrr.

We are in a deep freeze here again. It was -28°C (-18°F) when I headed to yoga at 6AM. I have a few guys framing a house today, methinks they will take the day off.

A question posed on the radio here yesterday, would you prefer cold with lots of snow, or real cold with no snow. I prefer the snow option.

I will go with the snow option for sure. At least then I can get out snowshoeing or CC skiing and enjoy the winter. And I get all that exercise snowblowing our 1/4 mile driveway!

I am with you, Eric. Give me snow any time so that I can do winter sports. If I can get out, I can enjoy the winter with little regard for the temperature. All that said, I seem to have pulled a tendon or two while skiing a couple of weeks ago in the -10 f temperature range, so have taking the prescribed rest. But there is only so much rest a man can endure....

Leon, I did nearly the same thing - strained something in my leg trying to break trail with my snowshoes in the deep snow. This aging body sure protests work more than it used too...

And that calendar came claim any day it wants as the first of spring. That does not make the snow stop falling, let alone get it all to melt.

We must all be grateful that this years cold winter temperatures have been somewhat moderated by global warming. Just think how much colder it could have been. Bigger poorer fuel economy vehicles are definitely the answer.

Not kidding anymore. The ice storm today has left more than 600,000 here without power and temps will be below freezing until Saturday. Homes burned from falling wires. Thousands of trees lost. Universities sending their students away because they cannot feed them or heat the dormitories.

I am one of the lucky ones who has power - for now. I have the emergency kit ready.

And another storm is coming on Sunday. Desperate times.

Rosemary that sounds awful! We were spared most of it although I wouldn't be surprised if the power went out again.

We have power only on our side of the street but the telephone pole in the alley is leaning precariously and if it goes, so will our power. The ice storm damaged a lot of trees in our locale and since it will be below freezing continuously until sunday's storm, that may be the proverbial straw that breaks the back. I can always stay in BlackJack but no way can I get my 94 year old mom out, through the snow and up the step. I'll have to turn on the gas fireplace and then we all can huddle around it. Hopefully Sunday will change.

Went to Calvin College January Series lecture couple weeks ago. Meteorological (spelling per spell check) data over last 50 years proves global warming of 2 degrees F. If your body temp was 2 degrees above normal, you would not feel good. Neither does Mother Nature. Therefore the extreme fluctuations in temps, snowfall and heavy rains when we get them.
This winter may not be a fluke!
