Escape Survey

I got an email saying that they'd fixed the link and Canadians could put in their province of residence.

Filled it out and, yup, I'm not a good fit for the survey either.

Talked to ETI again and she'll have Marketing take a look at the situation.

Being a two time Escape buyer and not putting down anything nasty the only thing that I can think of is that I answered the question "how likely are you to buy another Escape" with "not likely." Given my age and the life expectancy of my current trailer that seems reasonable.

Actually, I found the survey response sort of insulting. When you ask a diversified group to take a survey and then tell some that they're not a good fit why did they send the survey to all owners?

Hope they fix the situation. I don't like having my time wasted.

I didn't get that. I got invited to take part (if they chose me) in a discussion group. So I suspect that's what they thought didn't fit, for whatever reason, for some people. I think I put not likely to buy another trailer but I'm not 100% sure.

True enough, and I'm not really trying to excuse that. That's a poor survey.

The question on 'would you buy one again?' is also somewhat poorly phrased, but I'm just suggesting that what they really mean there is "If you needed to purchase another trailer, would you consider an Escape again?"

Not.....do you think your going to die soon, or will you probably need at least one more trailer before you shuffle off this mortal coil?

That's kind of why I'm not sure what I said. I'd buy an Escape again. Do I think I WILL buy another? Probably not, or I hope I won't need to.

It's one thing to get kicked out because you don't meet their categories. I take plenty of surveys and understand statistics I've taken a few classes on them. I have never been to the end of a survey before and asked to submit it and THEN been told sorry.

The problem may be in the application behinds the survey. I don't know what or why only that it happened.

If it helps, I've done several surveys that have essentially said "thanks, and we are done" before the end of it or even after completing it. I've also worked a lot with Statistics during my career and understand how the math all works (thank goodness we don't have to do the calc's by hand any longer, with the advent of so many great statistical programs now available), so I for one didn't take it personally.

Most organizations, especially smaller entities like Escape buy a "survey package" that is somewhat customizable, but in the end my guess is that most if not all of the folks on the Escape management staff have little practical use with applied statistics, and the package they used was probably designed by someone in their mid to late 20's with little regard for how a survey like the one they sent can upset people when/if it gets to a point where your response essentially ends the survey at that point without other explanation.

At least nobody died or was harmed during the course of the survey, so it could always be worse!

I had an interesting and informative chat with the survey folks.

First of all, if you were rejected send an email to ETI and you'll be eligible for the draw.

Part of the situation may have been a validation test. It's not unusual for surveys etc. to include the same question slightly altered a second or third time. If the answers differ widely then they'd consider that the response likely have low reliability.

In this case, evidently the speed at which the survey is completed is also used to indicate validity. Apparently some folks blast through a survey slapping down answers just so they can be entered in a draw.

The problem with using the speed of completion is that some of us having a pretty good idea of what Escapes are and our views of them. It doesn't take very long for those folks to almost instantly answer the question and move on.

So, this survey hasn't exactly gone the way that it was expected to go but it's been interesting.
