Exterior storage container lid rubs trailer

Today when we arrived at the campground we lifted the lid of the front storage container (where the batteries and a few miscellaneous items are kept) and the lid rubbed against the trailer when opened. This has never happened before. We loosened the four bolts which connect it to the trailer frame but could not move the box any further forward. This was not an issue a month ago on our last trip. We’d appreciate suggestions of the possible cause and how to correct the issue.

In the past the hold down bolts went down through a flange. The holes aren't elongated so slackening off the bolts won't let you slide the box forward.

With the bolts slackened off you could insert wedges to tilt the box a bit, more as a temporary measure.

I didn't like the "falling forward" look of mine so I moved the box slightly forward and installed wedges to level the top. This resulted in enough space behind for a storage tube and a better propane cover fit.

Hoping to hear any suggestions or experiences others have in fixing this issue as well. I have the same rubbing issue with my storage box. I plan to losten the bolts and try to reset the position of it, but if any other members have experience with that same problem their input would be appreciated!

As I said, the bolt holes in the mounting flange aren't elongated. Slackening the bolts doesn't do anything. You could remove them, lift the box off and elongate the holes a bit so that you can move the box forward.

Thanks Ron. I did see your original response. The trailer box didn’t originally rub against the trailer, so there should be a way to reset the box to its correct position if it’s just shifted. I don’t want to adjust the angle of the box, as the “tilt” doesn’t bother me. I imagine that you can losten the bolts and reset, but wondering if anyone else has had the problem and reset it to the factory position. I haven’t had a chance to attempt it myself, so looking to see if anyone else has had the box rub against the trailer and then put it back into original position without elongating or changing the position from factory.

Thanks!!

Things do happen over time. Only slackening the bolts technically won't let the box be moved but it might be worth slackening them and giving the box a good wiggle and jiggle, hi tech terms. Sometimes that kind of thing works.
