So a few months ago I purchased a neutral bonding plug for my 2011 Honda EU 2000 generator. With the plug in a 15A outlet and the trailer's power cord in the larger, "30A" outlet (yes, I know the Honda will only deliver about 13A continuously), the EMS read no errors and allowed the generator to power the trailer.

So I decided to try powering the trailer from my truck which has the 2KW version of the Power Pro On-Board generator. The EMS gave me the same error code (2) that it showed with Honda without the neutral bonding plug. It did not allow the truck to power the trailer. The EMS did show normal voltage and frequency.

When I inserted the neutral bond plug into the second 15A outlet, the truck reported a ground error and shut off the power to the truck bed outlets.

Before I found our Escape, I had used the truck to power our previous trailer, a Coachment Freedom Express, which did not have any form of EMS. Everything ran fine.

Has anyone tried powering their Escape from an F-150? Is there a work around to make the EMS happy? Thanks

Maybe..............

Try shutting the trailer breaker for the WFCO converter to off..........

Then bypass the EMS for a test run (no bonding plug either)

Some folks have seen teeny ground faults there that the Ford didn't like...

Make sure water heater electric mode if OFF

If that doesn't work try turning off all trailer A/C breakers before connecting to the Ford, then back on one at a time to isolate the fault (assuming it is in the trailer)

I searched some more and found the EMS bypass switch. So I turned the EMS off and reconnected the trailer to the truck. It provided power; the truck's display said it was producing <200 watts. I switched off the breakers for the fridge/converter and hot water heater. I turned on the Houghton 3400 a/c. The fan came on and after 30 seconds or so the compressor started. After just a second or two, I heard a solid clunk and the compressor shut down. I reconnected to shore power and checked...the a/c works fine.

This surprises me. Late last week I tried these same things with the EU 2000. With the neutral plug installed, the EMS accepted power. It was able to start and run the a/c. No trouble getting the compressor to start.

Would love to hear from any F-150 owners who have used this feature with their trailer. How has it worked for you? Thanks!

The old eu2000s have a lot more reserve power for the initial inrush than the specs would indicate....I have one as well........beasts!

Appears that initial air conditioner inrush amp draw is too much for the ProPower 2k, though I'm not a ProPower owner........

PS - the teeny ground faults I referred to were in the WFCO converter / chargers from what I read. Also lots of complaints related to the ProPower 2k and inductive loads.

See if your Ford will provide power to the trailer with the converter breaker on, EMS in bypass and no bonding plug. But don't try to run your air conditioner........

Related - does your air conditioner have a soft start?

Thanks 7Gentex and Centex for your help. Appreciate it!
