F150 and 5.5' Bed for Escape 5.0

My wife and I are looking at a 2024 F150 SuperCrew with a 5.5' Bed to use as a tow vehicle for our Escape 5.0. The specific truck we are looking at has the 3.5 EcoBoost, Tow/Haul package, 36 gallon fuel tank, and a payload of 1796 lbs. We are thinking of pairing it with an Andersen Ultimate Hitch Gooseneck Mount but are open to other hitches.

If you are currently towing an Escape 5.0 with an F150 SuperCrew and 5.5' Bed, please provide information about your setup and your experiences (good or bad) with your setup.

We are most concerned about turning radius and clearances. We don't want to buy the wrong truck and would appreciate your advice.

Mark, I can't speak to the gooseneck mount, but we're using the rail mount version of the Andersen Ultimate Hitch for our 2024 5.0. The tow vehicle is a 2023 F-150 XL Supercrew with the 3.5 EcoBoost, 36 gal tank and 5.5' bed with a payload of 1991# (before the aftermarket tonneau cover & spray-on bedliner).

I initially shared your concern about turning radius with the short 5.5' bed, but since picking our 5.0 up in March, we've towed it for over 5000 miles & have been quite pleased - no complaints.

We have a 2018 F150 super crew STX with 5.5 bed and the 2.7 eb engine. We use the Andersen on rails and only have clearance issues if I install the hitch backwards. Only happened once, and no damage was done.

My only complaint is that I wish I had the 36 gallon tank.

The truck and trailer are a very good match. We’ve had the combo for a few years and pulled 6000+ miles just this May and June. All good.

Anybody use the Andersen Ultimate Gooseneck Mount or any other setup?
