Thanks Dave. I see your's is hinged forward like ours, so I'll also buy the small bed strut for my trailer. I also asked Reace if he'd install a strut and was told no. I though it was because he hadn't figured it out yet - too new! I see you also have the liner under your mattress and the strut still works, great! Pictures say so much!!

I owned a 30' sailboat for 6 or 7 years that I sailed from San Fran Bay to Puerto Vallarta. I carried two Advanced Frame Inflatable Kayaks with us. They are not your typical vinyl beach toy, they are a professional grade inflatables, designed for serious use. They fold up and store in a suitcase sized bag weighing less than 50 lbs with the paddle. Used them in various anchorages all through the Sea of Cortez. Liked them so much, we kept them when we sold the boat, now they are part of the Escape.

Is there any way the whole bed could lift up from the foot end instead of hinging from the side? Maybe I'm missing something about the construction of the bed platform. Maybe it's not even necessary.

The bed support framing on a 21 is a bunch of non-continuous pieces screwed together under the plywood. I took the whole platform off the framing to work underneath it; there's no structural strength unless the framing is screwed to the floor - it's not built like a box spring.
