Don't even have our trailer yet, but have already planned (and reserved) its first trip (doesn't include the weekend trip I'm planning on taking at a nearby state park to check things out). Trailer is tentatively due mid-June :) .

It's a two week trip, with our first stop at the St. Louis West KOA for a couple of nights....plans are to spend a day sightseeing around the Gateway Arch NP.

Next stop is Canning Creek park (COE). Plan there is to hike around the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and drive the Flint Hills Byway. Might also visit a couple of other local sights, but this stop is only for 4 nights so maybe not. Really looking forward to exploring the prairie....but a bit of a bummer that our pooch is barred from many trails, including the sections that have the bison.

Final stop is Venango (COE park adjacent to Kanopolis SP). Plan here is to hike many of the Kanopolis trails, check out Mushroom rocks and Faris caves. We'll be here for 7 nights.

Greatly looking forward to the trip...first two stops have water and electric, final stop is electric only but close to water and flush toilets. Stop for drive home hasn't been determined yet, but will either stop at hotel or just park somewhere
for overnight (any rest areas in MO that allow this?). It's about 15~17 hours back to home if I drove straight through, so at least one stop will be required.

Any suggestions for must see sightseeing stops or trails to hike? This will be not only our first time camping in KS, but our first visit to the state (I've visited 45 states, but KS is one I haven't yet visited...felt it was time to remedy that ;D ).

My suggestion is to plan a shorter 1-2 night trip even closer to home prior to leaving on a 2 week trip. Even a driveway campout could work to a great degree, but a campground within 20-30 miles of home would be ideal. It gives you a chance to test out all the systems, familiarize yourselves with everything, and discover all the little stuff you didn't realize you needed or forgot to pack.

If you happen to want to take a little side trip, there's a nice little sod house museum (containing the actual sod house plus other artifacts) along the highway about 3-4 miles north of Cleo Springs, OK.

Definitely. We live 10 minutes from a state park, planning a weekend there first. KS will be the first real trip. Thanks for the tip on the sod house. Will take a look.

I just finished planning my winter trip. I'm staying in the East this year (I've been to Arizona for most of the last 8 winters). I'll be bouncing around mostly between state parks in FL, GA & AL. Should be quite a change from staying in one place for months to a bunch of 1 week stays, but I wanted to see the area.

I used the RV Life Trip Wizard app (put out by the folks that own this website) and found it very helpful for planning the trip. Some quirks, but once you get used to it, probably the best trip planner I've used.

Yes, I've booked a winter trip as well. We always take the week of my wife's birthday (December) and head south. If you're looking for a spot in AL, I highly recommend Meaher State Park on the north end of Mobile Bay. All sights offer full hookup and most have a nice view of the bay. This year will mark our third trip there.

Nice WW2 battleship just down the street to explore as well as several decent seafood restaurants. Only an hour or so to Biloxi, MS as well if you like to gamble :) . Decent kayaking as well in the area and a nice boardwalk through the marsh in the park. Daphne has an excellent fishing pier.

First year we went the park was decorated with Christmas decorations, but they were absent the second time...(must depend upon the host).
