Fix'in Coffee...Yummmmmm

Dave, I just put one of those in, in a kitchen reno we did for a customer about 3 months ago. They just love the thing, probably their favourite part of the reno, and they did things up real nice.

I really don't mind the time spent grinding. I often absentmindedly do it while sitting reading, or watching things. I am usually up long before Lisa, so time is not an issue. On weekend trips I sometimes will grind enough ahead on my good grinder at home, but seriously, nothing beats fresh ground, it really makes a HUGE difference in the taste.

J Mac, rather than bother to jury rig a cordless drill to a manual grinder, you can get good battery operated ones, but some of better ones are as pricey as a good one for home, around $200.

Jim;
I often sit in front of the TV, cleaning out the primer pockets of rifle and pistol shells prior to reloading. My wife says it looks like I'm shucking peas (although I have no idea how a Southern California girl like Deb would know about such things...I guess she saw it on one of her HGTV shows).

As to the Meile, this is our second. The first was on its own dedicated 220v, 50 amp circuit and it lasted about 15 years. As we had to have a cabinet custom fitted for the unit, when the first went TU we put the new model it. Actually, it is FAR more sophisticated than the first version and has a few more bells and whistles.

Dave

Jim, I wish I heard from you sooner. It didn't work so well on our peppper mill either!

Now if Rease and Tammy will add it to the option list for the 19 and 5.0. Might be a tad too large for the 13/15/17??

We are thinking of installing a Clover in out Escape!

A $20 Aeropress might have to do.

Can't ever get enough discussion about good coffee!

HARO hand grinder and Clever Dripper, that is my go to solution. Just have to boil water. If I want to get fancy I pull out the aeropress.

How much power does that Clover machine use?

I am not sure of the power needs but before Starbucks bought the Clover company they cost around $11,000. We have a coffee shop near where we live that has one and it makes a smooth cup of coffee! That is when I bought my first Aeropress.

What about dispos'in coffee? I wouldn't think about putting it down the grey tank, but can it be flushed into the black tank? What to do with coffee grinds?

I'd never put grounds in either tank. I've an old 3# coffee can I line with a plastic trash liner and dump coffee grounds and other moist things.

One of the things I like about the aero press is the ease of disposing of grounds. When done pressing a cuppa, take unscrew the filter end, push on the plunger, and the little puck of compressed grounds pops right out. Into the garbage, or fire pit, or where ever works for you.

Before we started using the aero press this year we were using a french press. Disposing of the grounds from it was relatively difficult, and used a fair bit of water to rinse the carafe out.

I thought that the Areopress only made one cup of coffee at a time. Are you repeatedly making cup after cup to fill your carafe? If not could you please share your method?

We use a cone drip with #4 filter. Makes 2.5 cups equal in quality to the fancy French Press we use at home. The weakness of the Kerug (and Areopress?) type coffee makers is the coffee may have been sitting, ground, on the shelf for weeks before use. Fresh is best! Also, the drip method allows for simple disposal of the grounds by dumping them in the trash.
