For Administrator - Topic Click Goes to Ad

I've noticed today that when I select a current topic from the list on the right side of the screen, it takes me to a product ad instead of to the thread. I've never seen this before and it does not happen every time. Is this a new revenue generator for the forum, just a new change in the way the website works, or do I have a potential virus problem?

Just clicked on a post and it went straight to an ad

I checked the forum this morning because I was looking for a thread I had subscribed to some time ago. Saw an interesting looking thread and it opened with no ads. Saw this thread and opened it this afternoon and several others to see if it diverted me to an ad/ads and it did not. So I am unaffected as far as ads are concerned.

This has been happening for 3 days now including just now. Occurs with the first thread I open and then nothing more unless I close the forum tab the open it in a new tab. Windows 11, current Firefox.

It appears it's not something consistently coming from the site. It's specific to the users computer. That's why some of us are having problems and others are not.



My first suggestion is to clear your cache, then reboot. Use a different browser. I'm using FireFox 114.01 with zero issues. I've used Adblock Plus for years.

It has been happening for a couple of weeks using Safari & Mac OS. Only happens on the first "click" on a topic once per session.

It's probably not a "problem", its very likely intentional as a revenue source for the site. I know of another forum that has the same thing--first thread click instantly brings up a full page ad. Once you click through that it doesn't happen again during that session.

Your operating system or browser may affect what you see.

The next step for the site is to offer ad free content for a fee.

I just went into my Google Account and then went to "My Ad Center". I then selected the option to turn personalized ads off. I also cleared my cache in the Safari browser and cleared the history, then restarted. So far it seems to have solved the issue at least for now.
