When I bought my 21NE, the original owner still had a lien on it with his credit union. We all met there to transact - he brought his trailer, and I brought my cashier's check. We exchanged papers, signed forms, and hitched it up to my truck for the drive home.
The only glitch was that his CU had misplaced the title, so I had to request a replacement title (which took a bit of time to acquire - another story for another time).
If I had wanted to use a personal check (from my credit union to his), I would have had to wait for it to clear before I could take the truck home. The Cashier's Check (AKA Teller Check) fee was $2 - a wire fee would have been closer to $30, and it wouldn't have been any faster.

) were issues surrounding the safe transfer of funds. Though sad to give up my little trailer and the dream of traveling in it up the Eastern seaboard to Montreal and back, I now feel a lot less nervous about placing Sojourner up for sale - next week, if all goes well. My, how I'll miss the gracious folks here on the forum! Enjoy your travels!
