Forum 'class' at rallies?

While I consider myself pretty 'tekky' on computers given that I love the challenge, I still feel somewhat confused when I am on the Escape forum, especially when searching. A one hour class at rallies for those interested would not only help the operator, but make the structure of the forum easier for the operator when searching. IMHO. Sure would make me a happy camper! How about a 'kick-off' class at the NOG in October!

I am interested in what you consider important? Some topics I see in question area, but not in order importance:
Using private email
Posting pictures
Setting up forum and making choices in CP

I am a former IT application instructor and could make some sense from everyone's suggestions and prepare a seminar outline.

Give us your ideas.

Yes, I've read it front to back, but still have searching questions. What better venue to have a short Q&A than a rally! A lot of members have many years of experience on the forum. However, I'm sure I'm not the only New Escape owner-to-be who would like this!

It's only an idea.... Looking forward to the NOG!

I think the biggest issue is coming up with the right search phrase(s) and the requirement for a longer than 3 letter word for the search engine to work. Maybe a menu of suggested search words would help? (Ex-Oracle DBA here.)

This is a good idea, but something likely more fitting at the Escape Rally.

All the various forums seem to use the same core software engine (via Social Knowledge LLC) so I believe the same search methodology (and database) issues apply regardless of which forum.......

I'm always glad to help. What I find to be the most helpful is when folks originally post they make the subject title meaningful and spelled correctly  Sure helps with search! For instance a title "I need help," isn't. But a title "Need help with the furnace," is!

As far as a three-letter search word, use a wildcard. Most often referred to as an asterisk * (e.g., tow*)

I'm out camping right now, but if you're really struggling with something, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. Right now, I'm just grateful the EscapeForum has a relatively small number of threads. Search on FiberglassRV and you can end up with 20+ pages of information... oh my!

You can also outsource the searching to Google, by going to Google and typing something like:

2 inch receiver site:escapeforum.org

And you won't be limited to three characters or more. You can also use this technique to search this forum for images, all from Google's front end.

You don't need to go outside the forum to use Google. Simply left click on the Search function above and scroll down to Search Site/Google.
Oh cool, I didn't see that there before. :thumb: Using Google directly is handy for me when I want to find images of something keyword-specific only on this forum.

True, but the ability to search any site with the "site:<site_name>" syntax is a handy tool that works on all sites - not just the forum.
