Forum Time Out

I have received this error message several times (4-5) in the past several weeks. It usually occurs when I am on the Escape Forum and selecting another thread to view. This message appears after a 20 second time with the forum url spinning. I would guess there is some timeout occurring that the Escape site is experiencing too much traffic and is rejecting my request for a new page.

I have seen it a few times also. Did see it today I believe.
Since they made changes in the last few weeks, maybe that is related.

I have seen those intermittently, like once every few weeks. It seems it will happen for a few minutes then all is good again. No clue what it could be though.

The 522 is pretty specific to the caching proxy, Cloudflare. According to them they respond with the 522 after either 15 seconds of no ack as part of the initial 3-way handshake or 90 seconds without any HTTP data returned after the initial handshake. Since you're getting the 522 after 20 seconds, it's the first condition.

15 seconds is an eternity for the initial handshake, even with congestion or high server load. It's possible it's congestion but seems more likely when you're experiencing the issue is that they are doing server maintenance- upgrading, patching, restarting the web server, restarting the server, or something along those lines.

Browsing Error

When ever they happen I always point my finger at them and tell them they are Number One. Maybe that is why I have to go to the 522 penalty box.

I'm not getting the time out message, what I'm getting constantly is this... and the EscapeForum is the only page I have open. This also happens for me on FiberglassRV. I'm wondering if it's one of the ads that's causing it? :ermm: BTW: I'm using Firefox as my browser.

Anyone else having this issue?

Haven't seen that one. I'm also using Firefox, but on a Mac. I was slowing down a lot, loading pages, so I reluctantly deleted all my cookies. Had to re-enter passwords etc. which was irritating, but as least I could remember them.

I've seen that same one as Paul a few times in the past weeks... so I guess I've been bad too. Dave made me do it -- whatever it was.

Not having the issue but I did some searching and found:
1. It seems to be unique to Firefox, and,
2. There seems to be a reasonable approach to removing that less-than-helpful popup.

I found instructions here:
http://howtodoit.eu/disable-web-page-slowing-browser/

After you enter the "about:config" in the address bar and click the "I am careful" button, you will be directed to a big file of configuration states. Scroll way down...

This is what you are looking for (see attachment). Double click on the two lines in question per instructions.

I don't use Firefox enough to be able to prove that it works, but if you don't mind being a guinny pig, you can tell the rest of us if it works.

Okay, I just did this and yes, I'll let everyone know if it fixes my problem. Thanks Alan for finding the info :thumb:

Well, no joy. Changing the config, only changed the way the message is delivered. Instead of a banner that kept popping down below the address bar, I now get a popup.

Looks like it is connected to the ads that are on the page firing a tracking script.
Try Chrome and see if it resolves. Mostly use Chrome now even on Apple stuff.

am I wrong, or did these problems start popping up after escapeforum.org's last security update?

Yes, I think it did. I've used IE for years, but gave that up when I constantly needed to clear cache because of image display problems. Thought I fixed it by going to Firefox. Dang. Guess I'll try Chrome next. And no, it's not my laptop which is wicked fast (except here) and I have lots of Ram.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I think you're right Greg. Notice the little snip about "tracking" in the error message. Might be my anti-virus, etc. is catching this, where others software isn't.
