Fridge lock problem

I have a 2013 17B. A tiny plastic part broke on the bottom inside fridge lock mechanism. So I cannot lock the fridge when towing; I have to duct tape it, which has removed some of the silver coating on the fridge door and some varnish on the cabinet. When camping I remove the duct tape and just shut the fridge door, but in a while the door pops open a bit, although my food stays sort of cold and the freezer food does not thaw. But how can I get my fridge working like when I bought it?

OR, you might be able to find a replacement part online at dometic-parts; I have had success with this.

In the meantime, why not use a bungee strap rather than tape to hold the door shut? May limit further paint damage on the fridge and walls.

While our latch is ok, in addition we have two small brushed nickel cleats mounted on each side of the door. We use a heavy shoestring across the door while traveling for that extra measure of security and it would work as a day to day fix while camped too.
No abrasion or scratching and no stretch.
