Front window gasket

The white gasket around front window is coming up in two corners. Moisture getting behind entire seal with mold in the corners. ETI assured me that it is for appearance purposes only and I should just snap it in place and not worry. Also said I could silicone it if I wanted. If it’s only for looks can I just remove it and not have the mold buildup?
