This is a good point. I had mentioned the rotating centre section, but not this connection. A custom-punched metal panel would need a flanged centre hole to match the 5" diameter duct, connected to the duct and fitted with a round grill; the intake louvers surrounding it would need to be varying lengths to fill the space. the result will look essentially like the stock grill, but with punched louvers (like the old furnace) rather than slots in plastic. It's certainly do-able, but it won't be easy.I don't think replacing the grill is going to be as easy as that. What the mock up doesn't show is the flex pipe attached to the centre circular grill to direct the hot air out...leaving the surrounding vent holes for intake air.
