My 2¢,

I just picked up an Escape19 and towed it home to Colorado. Using an Anderson hitch, the trailer tows smoother and with virtually no sway compared to the T@B trailer that I used to pull (which weighed half as much). Yes, I'm going 5mph slower over Vail pass and my gas mileage dropped; but in terms of the trailer following the truck, it behaves itself very nicely. Dunno how much of that is due to the trailer and what is due to the Anderson hitch and honestly, I don't care.

Buying an Escape trailer is a major purchase for anyone. Seeing how they are made made me feel much better about the money that I spent. I'd highly recommend it.

We pulled our new 21' from the factory to our home in Florida without a WDH or anti-sway bar of any kind and never experienced the slightest bit of sway or problem of any type. We do, however, tow with a full-sized pickup truck that has some sort of built-in anti-sway protection - (as do many, if not most or all, of the relatively new trucks).

Hey Ray thanks Just checked my ford 2015 it has a trailer sway in it. I think I will be okay with out the Anderson hitch but will likely have some sort of sway installed at a later date. Guess the 60k plus for a new vehicle is worth something! Again thanks all for your responses

A WDH redistributes weight from the back of your tow vehicle to the front of the vehicle and also back to the trailer. It may help keep the front of the TV on the ground and can get too much weight off of the back of the TV, maybe about 300 lbs. in many cases.

Just in case someone takes this too literally, the front of a tug with a trailer is not in any danger of coming off the ground, even without WDH. The amount of load lifted off of the front axle of the tug by the trailer's tongue weight might be as much as 200 pounds (if you have about 500 pounds on the hitch), and that 200 pounds is a few percent of the more-than-a-ton which is on the front axle before the trailer is added.

Have never used a wdh to pull the 21 or the previous Casita and have had no problems. I pull with a Ridgline and do use an anti sway bar. With a smaller tug a wdh may be needed.

Had the Pro Series for the 17B/Highlander combo; worked well. GMC service manager suggested WDH for the Yukon I bought prior to picking up 21. Went with Anderson and have towed it with/without it, and prefer using it. Feels more integrated and smooths out some wobble.

Have towed my 17b with a Honda Pilot with no WDH and it tows fine no significant sway and it sits pretty level. Pilot has a 4500 lb tow rating and tongue rating of 450 lb. Honda does not recommend the use of a WDH.
