Headliner Separation and Sagging

Yes, I had an extra drop-down table mounted on the wall next to my door and the support for that was glassed in during the initial process.

Karen, I'm so excited to see that you were able to do this, because I'd love a table right there in front of the screen door where I could enjoy any breeze that happens by! I'm working on the build sheet for my 17B and am wondering if I could simply opt for a drop-down counter to be placed there, assuming that it would be strong enough. Is your table the same size or larger than the drop-down counter generally added beside the stove or sink? What do you suggest? Thanks! :)

A Message All New Owners Should Heed!

This seperation is VERY common with all molded towables, of any age. Just read the archives on FiberglassRV. OH my stars.

There's lots of folks asking about attaching "stuff" to the walls and then I READ where folks need to reattach the headliner.

THIS is NOT your sticks and bricks home. IMHO do NOT try to attach anything to the vinyl wall covering. Some time down the line, you'll be asking "how do I reattach the vinyl."

So glad I viewed this thread!!! Thanks for the warning!

If and when the time comes for Ten Forward, I'll use whatever an automotive mechanic suggests for reattaching a headliner or vinyl roof... those folks are used to dealing with heat... or temperature swings.

I have the sagging ceiling issue on my 17B. It has been in the pacific nw for it's life so am inclined to think heat is not the issue on mine. I am disappointed but not ready to access in to the liner with a project and 3M stuff. What if I do nothing? Will it continue to sag and then what? Seems like there is only so far it will sag as it is firmly connected around the edges, etc. Looking for advice from other who have fixed theirs or are living with it.

Thanks in advance.

Who knows?

If it has started to sag, it seems unlikely that it will miraculously stop......forever. But it might.

With a hypodermic needle (obtained at a farm supply outlet) you could make an inconspicuous injection hole in the liner at a sag and inject some 3M or contact cement. Other than that, a repair would involve a lot more effort of liner removal.

If you can support the patch area with a jammed piece of wood (floor -to-ceiling) and some foam board against the liner to hold the patch in place for a couple of days for the adhesive to bond, that would be needed. You could repair a section at a time. A lot of pressure is NOT needed. You could easily shape the foam backer board to any curves involved.

Try a web search for your issue. There may be other more clever ways to deal with your sag.

By any chance is there a ceiling light near the center of the sag?

If so removing it could allow access to the space between the liner and the shell. A 360* spray of spray adhesive would likely reach enough of an area to improve the situation without requiring any drastic action.

I don't think doing nothing is a good option. It will keep on detaching and the amount sagging will increase.

Thank you @HABBERDABBER and @Ron in BC

I do have a center light and will work to get the sag fixed. I have an excellent RV shop and am sure that they have seen this before.

I just had my rig in for new batteries and wheel bearing check. So was pretty damn bummed to just notice this after I brought the rig home. I previously had a 2013 15 footer and she did not sag like my current rig.

Anyway, thank you for the help with this. I am off to the Flathead Lake (MT) area in a few weeks here and will hopefully ignore the saggy parts (on the Escape)

Happy summer to all!

Sagging liner

My headliner is separating from the roof in the front of my 2012 Escape 19". It is sagging down across the front about 4-5 inches. I have been traveling betwwen extremely hot conditions to cool this summer. Perhaps that caused the foam or adhesive to break down? Does any one have a method to reattach by injecting adhesive under the headliner (preferred), or reattaching with capped screws? Cant find a thread that addresses this problem. Thanks!
We had a sag in our 2013 Escape19 that we fixed by using a thin flexible wood strip. Easy and has been in place for a few years.

Well it was my turn to repair a sagging headliner.

I cut a round section of headliner about 6.5 inches in diameter using a plate as a template and used 3M Hi-Strength 90 spray adhesive. I worked all the headliner loose in the bad area until I got to a uniform good area figuring the loosened area would drop soon anyway. I used a round ended, flat metal strip; a ruler wasn’t long enough.

I installed a rechargeable light to cover the hole so I wouldn’t have to run wires. I bought two lights so in the years to come I can do the same thing on the other end of the trailer with matching lights. Here is the light I used.

Well that's making lemonade from lemons. Nicely done.

I was in a Gen 1 with Tammy years ago and a guy was single handedly putting up the ceiling vinyl. I was amazed that he was doing it solo.

My ceiling is now completely unhinged. The fabric separated from insulation every and the insulation separating from fiberglass in some areas. Ammo I reading here correctly that the newer trailers have reflectix as the roof insulation? If so, I may just cut it back and start fresh

I'm sorry that autocorrect ruined my message. The fabric is separating from the insulation everywhere and the insulation is separating from the fiberglass in some places.
