Heat pump

We just purchased our escape trailer three weeks ago and are wondering if anyone else’s noticing the trailer shake when they turn on the heat pump.

Are you talking about the Heat Strip in the air conditioner unit?


Our Dometic is noisy when starting up, there are several threads about others trying to quite the air conditioner some. The heat strip is noticeable nosier then just the air conditioner, I do like the heat strip for drying my rain coat.

If you are talking about when the compressor kicks on then yes. I do notice a noticeable shake. I don’t know how much the difference is between AC and Heat. If I remember correctly the heat pump works by reversing the compressor direction.

Hello Lisa, I have the Houghton 13.5 heat pump unit and yes I do, though I'd call it a shimmy rather than a shake, but I'm splitting hairs. Not trying to be funny by calling it a shimmy, it's just in my head a shimmy is more subtle than a shake.

Some owners have found missing or loose screws on the unit, fan, or compressor mounting. My Coleman compressor shakes a minor bit. My old Dometic was rock n roll when the compressor kicked in. My fan and heat strip do not shake. I’ve also had shakes from insect nests, that once removed solved that.

Thank you for your responses. We believe it to be the compressor kicking in and out when we turn on the heat, and we think it is normal, but We find it too noisy during the night and have brought our own little heater into the trailer for that.
