Hello from soon to be 21C owners in central Vermont

Hi All!

We’ll take delivery of our 21C in December (perfect timing for northern New England). We’ve tent camped until now, so this will be a big upgrade in comfort. We’ll be traveling with our two dogs.

I’ve been lurking on this forum for the last couple of months, reading tons of threads as we first narrowed down the trailer and floorpan, and then every configuration decision. I’m very grateful for the wealth of information shared by this community.

We plan on exploring our backyard, including the fantastic state parks in Vermont, and the Maine coast. Once we learn the ropes, we’re excited to venture farther and look forward to seeing parts of the country we haven’t yet explored, meeting new people, and traveling at a slower pace.

We both work remotely, so we’ll be experimenting with how comfortably we can do that from the trailer, likely with my wife working at the dinette and I’ll figure out an outdoor setup.

While it will be tough waiting a few months before we can take our first adventure, it will be nice to have the time to familiarize myself with the trailer, test out as much as I can before hitting the road, and do some projects, starting with installing a Lagun mount.

We bought our gently used 21C a year ago, so <I believe> we're still trailer newbies. Like you, we were tent campers until we bought this trailer. It is a huge step up from the tent, but there is more responsibility and more maintenance.

What have you got for a tow vehicle? [We started with an '07 Tacoma Prerunner, but quickly decided a more powerful TV was warranted, so we moved up to a RAM 1500 Limited. The difference is capability and power is huge! So far so good.

One recommendation I try to pass on for those taking new deliveries is to loosen the spare tire on the back and install a wood shim between the tire and the metal upright it is bolted to. If you leave it there for months the upright will end up causing a dent in the tire wall. Any kind of wood, heavy duty plastic, or a flat metal plate that is at least 4 inches square, and preferably a bit larger will help with that.

Welcome vtadv to the family. I have camped during my life, but my wife has not so it's a new experience for her. We took delivery of our Escape 21ne last year on 9-11-2023, so our baby just turned one and we are having a blast, You and yours will too.

Welcome to the 21C world, the best design ETI makes.

It depends on how much work space you need. If it's only a laptop then maybe a flip up shelf might do for rainy days. I use a stadium seat on the bed and I can do computer stuff and stay out of my wife's way. It's quite comfortable to work there.

I'm certainly expecting to need to level up my plumbing, electrical and others skills as part of maintaining the trailer.

We have a 2017 a 3.6L Chevy Colorado 4WD that we absolutely love. So similar to the Tacoma V6, with just a bit more towing capacity. I read of people towing the 21 with mid-sized trucks, and plenty who moved to bigger TVs. I decided to start with what we have, but recognize we may find ourselves in the market for a new TV before long.

We also tow our 21C with 2017 3.6L Colorado Z71 extended cab. It is a great truck but the cab is too small. I’m shopping for a full size, crew cab truck.
