Hello! Retiring in a couple of years - seeking the "right" TT.

Padlin - the $5k estimate is what I was trying to figure - ballpark $35k CDN?

My 2014 5.0TA was $35k CDN, they've gone up since so figure $38k, without solar or heat pads but with pretty much everything else. Add another $3500 or so if you decide on delivery.

Floating Cloud - the 5.0 I found is in VA. There are no secrets here, are there?

Richard, keep your sights on the 5.0 TA it's your retirement gift. Many times there are cancellations so there is a possibility you may get your trailer in 2016. I have a couple of years yet until I retire, trying to retire totally debt free. We got all of the options on our 5.0 TA except for the inverter and AC. Scott

Richard, have you ever owned a trailer (of any build)? Just curious. I think I could be happy with a Scamp 5er (side bath, modified), if I was thinking short-term, fair weather camping. It is a nice trailer with lots of happy owners.

There are two things that you'll need to be truly happy. A comfortable place to sleep and a comfortable place to sit inside (when the weather is bad). Everything else is gravy.

AK - I'm not fully retiring until 2018-ish I'm thinking about buying new once I calculate costs USD. At CND .75 to 1 USD the conversion is favorable.

Donna - you already sold me on the Escape. (and the Scamp's bed is too small) I've had 3 popups.

I'm now pondering the 19. I like to have the option of loaning it to my kids who have an suv

Caution on the conversion rate. That's only if you paid for your trailer now. Just a year and a half ago the conversion rate wasn't anywhere near where it is now, and it may not be in a year from now. Just saying, don't use the current rate for planning or making a decision on a 2017 trailer.

Greg has a good point. I paid 86 CDN for Ten Forward in 2014. I was still happy, but also had to watch the budget on discretionary options.

ok - since I'm obsessing ...I found a loaded 2011 for $25k USD. (he has the winter windows and extra insulation) The owner traded up to the new version. I kinda like the lightness. of the single axle and I don't have to drive to the North Pole and back, obsess for a year and save about $8k - your thoughts?

Also I looked at a Scamp 19. 2008 for $15k - it's an hour away, but the bed is too small. You all are biased, but how do they compare?

We had a 2005 Scamp 19 and sold it in 2013 to get a used 2008 Escape 5.0 Classic (single axle). We have never regretted it. The Escape has made improvements every year and we feel the build quality is superior and better thought out. We love the front to back queen sized bed in the loft, rather than the side to side in the Scamp Deluxe. The Scamp standard 19' has a front to back queen bed but you have to jury rig the bunk bed/sofa to make room for your feet. If you can afford it you would really enjoy the Escape 5.0. The thermopane windows and extra insulation will come in handy no matter what climate you travel in. We don't have either but we do have solar on ours and really enjoy the extra freedom that provides. We too like the smaller single axle classic ( a little more leeway on the tow vehicle) but we know that those who went with the newer tandem 5.0 love it too!
Good luck with your decision!!

Floating Cloud - the dang Casita I was sold on suddenly got expensive and small
Hi: Richard in Georgia... As to the difference between a Scamp 19 and an Escape 5.0TA talk to C&G in FL...he's owned both!!!

AKsnowbiker - you're correct and not. The epic road trip is in a couple of years - I would however welcome a few shakeout trips first. This ain't my first rodeo - I've messed up big by not knowing what I'm doing and I'd rather mess up in my own time zone. I'm torn between new and used.

Greg A. Yup - usta do biz in Canada. I've got to do a little forecasting. If rates are low - and they smell low - I will offer Escape a pay it forward deal. If not I'll buy some CDN $ now.

Donna historically I think 86 was a good rate. I'm seeing 75 now.

Techfan -ouch. in 2008 we visited the EU. Not only did I get spanked with conversion, I was in Italy in Oct 2008 when my portfolio dropped by 50%. That was fun.

FMLNM - the Scamp 19 isn't gonna win. The bunk is too small. The used 5.0 single axle is a strong possibility, but at $25k used - I can wait for new.

Escape Artist. Love St Andrews - Ever been to Ft Desoto near St Pete beach? Wowzers!

ALL: Everybody has been helpful. I'm going to start a new thread because I have a new question!

Hi: Richard in Georgia... You mean here? We were the afternoon's entertainment for the folks across the lagoon. Soon as we were settled in they wanted a tour of the trailer. "Never seen anything like it"!!! Alf
