Hello

I’d say you would be maxing out things. My 19 weighs more than that, and my tongue weight is more than that. You would have to leave options off the trailer and travel light. Possibly you could look at a basic Gen 1 trailer (pre 2017) to get a lighter one.

I think I could tow a 19 as long as it was dry? What do you think.
Honda Pilot tongue weight is 450 lbs with two people and I would be one.
Capacity is 4500 with two people weighing 150lbs and 15lbs of cargo in back total 30.

Since it would just be me I would have 4630 lbs tow weight.

I'm guessing you have the 4WD model, since the 2WD is only rated to 3500 lbs. Our empty weight for our 19' was 3609 lbs, so as long as you have the 4WD and load appropriately it should pull it OK. It will work the engine and transmission harder, since the 19 is not only heavier, but also a larger frontal area than the 17.

Yes - I think it may be doable since I do have the 4WD model, I will probable have to take it easy on the hills and monitor the trans temp closely.

Hi, ROH, and welcome to the Escape Forum!

How to post a new question (thread)

Questions or a new topic thread can be started in the section of the forum that best fits the topic you have in mind. (edit: I think the topic your question fits in is “Towing and Hitching”)

Once you have posted your question you can edit that post for a brief period of time.
.
Once you have crafted your post, click on the submit reply button below the text editor to submit your post to the board.

My suggestion ; if your response or question is longer then a couple sentences, write it on pages or notes or word, someplace other then while logged in. Then copy and paste on the site. Every time I try to respond with more then a few line I get timed out and have to start all over. It probably something I’m doing but haven’t figured out how to correct being timed out. And to add to it my wifi keeps dropping out too, several times a day.:banghead:

That's a little different than my experience. I often log in, see a question that I can see would be better answered with a photo, go out the trailer, take a photo, come back in, put it in photos and then go back to the thread.

I guess different computers and settings etc. but I have no need to cut and paste.

Ron

A picture is worth a thousand words. But some people prefer to write those words. A reply window will time out and when that happens the poster loses their reply. That's why some prefer to use Notepad, etc. to write their thoughts (and spell check!), then copy and paste into a reply window. It doesn't have anything to do with anyone's computer or their particular settings.

You can check the average, maximum & minimum weights & tongue weights for many fiberglass trailers (including the Escape 19) here.

Download the file & use the filters to select the trailer you want to check. This spreadsheet was started by Fred Simson at the Fiberglass RV forum, and with his permission I keep ( and add to if folks let me know their axle & total weight, make, model, and year) a spreadsheet version.

I got this tip from an experienced forum member a while ago: when you sign in there is a small box to check (“remember me” or something like that), if you check that box you won’t get timed out. Works.

Edit: just logged out then back in to double check, the “box” says “Remember Me?”

Re the posted floor plans for 17 a and b....my 17A was built (in reace and tammy days) with two tables, w appropriate cushions. It's not currently listed, but I bet they'd consider it. Using some of the cushions I made a half width bed in the front, and have about 22 inches of seat at the ends (door and closet) and have the table in back which can be a double bed. If I end up wanting to sleep 4, I just need to bring one extra cushion that usually stays home. It's the max flexibility for me camping when family comes along. and I love the extra floor space when it's just me. Have an opening door at end of bench near entry door, and outside port front driver side for access under the other bench. Porta potty goes under the narrow bed.

Jeff: As Randy said I would look at Gen1 19's (2009-mid/late 2016). They are considerably lighter. They have a GVWR of 4000 so they shouldn't weigh more than that fully loaded. You can see that generally holds true in the Trailer Weights in the Real World excel sheet that was linked by Jon. Ours sits right there among the majority around 3650# overall and 400# tongue weight ready to camp. You never want to be limited to traveling dry. It is not always practical/possible.

Hello all I am now considering a 2019 T@b 400 boondock. Any thoughts on the comparison between a 17b. My towing is 4650 lbs and 450 lbs tongue just for reference.

Everybody has to buy what works for them. However, no RV’s outlast molded fiberglass. I’ve had several RV’s and over 50 years RVing, and my two best RV’s hands down were a Bigfoot and my current Escape. Period.
