We did not have the hood installed. If you cook even a little, the steam and heat take their toll on the bottom of the cupboard. The seam tape separates and the vinyl facing of the plywood. If you don't get the hood, I would see if ETI can install a piece of heat resistant metal above the burners. I'm in the process of doing a retrofit.

I use a stove top coffee percolator and about the only thing cooked on the inside stove. I was worried about exactly what Tim n Julie pointed out above with the steam from the percolator so eliminating wasn't an option. It's not intrusive and I'm hoping the wireless refrigerator thermometer will stick on it with the magnet back it has.

One thing I like about having the hood is it gives me attaching flexibility for adding a shelf for cups, or hooks for utensils, and even my own extra special lighting. The hood creates attachment points without drilling into vinyl, or walls. The vent vents pretty good, too.

Dometic CK2000 Cooker

This item was mentioned in another thread. I'm very intrigued by it. I've emailed the Dometic folks in the UK and asked if it would be available in the US, however I have yet to hear from their US folks (they said they'd forward my question to them).

I measured and it will fit just fine under the cabinet on the 21'. I really like the fact that it doesn't stick out from the cabinet, which means one less thing for me to bang myself in to (if something is there that can be banged on, I'll find it eventually - I keep a good supply of bandaids around).

You don't get a credit from ETI for not installing a range hood or a light underneath (which is what they do if you don't get the range hood). (There is a $50 charge if you rotate the stove though.)

There is a new Dometic range hood that their support tells me will be out for approximately March 2016. This is a Dometic USA product, so should be available through their retailers. It seems like a nice product, and you would likely be able to swap it out with the one Escape installs.

The United Kingdom model just recirculates, no outside venting, but the one Jim links appears to be a venting type, very nice upgrade.

Part of my likes the one where the fan is externally mounted on the roof. Sure there is a roof penetration, but that can be done properly, and it will be WAY quieter during operation. I don't like that it is a single speed fan, and uses halogen bulbs though.

Hi: Richard in Georgia... Yes the range hood exhausts to the outside. You must release the tabs outside so the flap can open with the exhausted air flow. We do use it when cooking in our 5.0TA. Alf

Yes. I didn't discover that the range vent flap was held closed by the tabs until I was going over the trailer and getting it ready for storage. Most of the cooking was outside anyway. Also forgot to have someone hold down the flush for the toilet while blowing out the lines. Loren

I suppose that if one wants a range hood other than those available from Escape, the choice is whether to get the hood anyway so you have the outside vent installed by the Escape factory, or just get the light fixture so there is no hole in the shell... depending on whether the stock outside vent is what you will want later.

The roof-vented alternative makes sense to me, but does require a duct through the cabinet over the hood.

Or forget the magnetic feature and attach it with 3M Command adhesive Picture Hanging Strips. It would have only one place to attach (where ever you put the strips on the hood), but it would be removable.

Good ideas! I might try a 3M Command strip as Brian suggests. We'll see what option looks best when the thermometer arrives.

I think there are 3M Velcro products too.
You'll want it removable to change batteries.

Not to hijack the original post, but I guess we're finding out that if you leave out a vent hood you can't stick the wireless fridge thermometer to it.

"Velcro" is a brand name. 3M's Picture Hanging strip is not that brand, and not the same design, but it is removable like Velcro, and much better suited to rigid surfaces (Velcro is for fabric flaps). This product - the one which I linked - is a removable system: you stick one strip on the object, another identical strip to the wall (or hood, or whatever), and the strips latch onto each other...

Those who omit the hood - or go with the stainless version - and are feeling magnet-deprived can add a steel panel to the refrigerator door.
