My production queue number suggests early 2023. Placed deposit for a 5.0 TA in October 2021.

This will be my sixth RV purchase. I started with travel trailers and then progressed to 5th wheels.

I would like to have observations / experiences from those that tow with one-ton pickup trucks.

I will be towing the 5.0 TA with a 2018 RAM 3500, 4WD, SRW ,SHORTBED (6'4"), 6.7L CUMMINS DIESEL / AISIN TRANSMISSION. My 5th wheel hitch is a BW Companion.

I am concerned with my RAM's bedrail height. One of the 5.0 TA options I choose is the body lift kit. I plan on adjusting 5th wheel hitch to 4 inches behind the axle to allow more space for turning.

Every one of my new 5th wheel purchases ended up being taller. I decided to go to a lower height, shorter length, and less RV weight with the 5.0 TA. I really do not like towing in strong wind conditons, espcially crosswinds. Maybe the 5.0 TA will be more comfortable / ease of mind for me. I also hope to see a little improvment with towing MPG performance too.

We have a 2021 F250 4wd and the truck bed rails are about 56.5” as measured abeam the rear axle and use a Companion hitch as well - our 5.0 has the lift kit and it works out well. We have the Companion hitch mounted to the Ford 5th Wheel Hitch prep package so the pin is maybe just an inch or so behind the axle and it works great - i think we can turn at a full 90 degrees without hitting the cab with the 6.5 foot bed. I don’t feel the wind pushing the trailer around at all even on windy days or passing trucks etc. I get between 14.5 mpg to 17 mpg depending on how fast I’m driving with the 6.7 diesel. I have a S&B 60 gallon aftermarket tank on the truck that replaced the factory tank which gives a range of better than 800 miles towing. Rob

We tow with a 2003 Dodge 3500, 6’4 bed left over from our truck camper days.

BW patriot hitch centered over rear axle with 58” bed rail height. We had to raise the pin box one hole to bring down the nose of the trailer for level towing.

This gives us around 8” of clearance between trailer frame and truck bed. Have never had any contact issues.

With the hitch centered over the rear axle you can make a 90 degree turn without hitting the cab.

We also are expecting our new 5.0 early in the new year. The latest queue # they gave us in early September was 186. Based on 45-50 units per month that should put us very close to New Years Day for the build to start. To date they have not allowed us to submit our build sheet even though I have reached out a couple of times in the last 2 months. Each time it has been "next month". I thought they said 4-6 months out they would start the process!!! Just curious what your situation and queue # is?

My last queue number was 241; I have not been contacted for build sheet. I thought I read that this will not occur until 2 to 3 months before build start. You are most likely one and a half to two months before me.

Thank you for your response / information. I would love to get your towing mileage. My RAM 3500 has a 3.42 axle ratio. My RAM 3500 mileage (towing and empty) has been better than my previous Tundras'. The 5.0 TA should make for easier manuevering at gas stations (something you do not need to do too much with your extra 60 gal auxillary tank).

Maybe I will not need to adjust my BW Companion hitch to the maximum rear of axle setting. Thank you.
