How best to secure funds in trailer sale

at least 2-3 times now, buying used cars, and our Escape 21, we've gone to a nearby branch of my bank (Chase) with the seller, and had a cashiers check issued in front of the seller. One time, the seller also used Chase, so we just did a EFT right at the counter, our account to his, directly. No problems.

There's no way I'd be carrying around $20000 or $40000 or whatever cash. just no way.
 
It appears the recent trend is to use a wire transfer. Safe, but not guaranteed. In talking with my local banker she explained even wires can be compromised.

I would recommend visiting your local bank and get their recommendations.
