How thick is the door on the Escape 19? I want to put in an extra keyed deadbolt lock in addition to the one on the door from the factory since it seems like every RV lock is keyed the same. I don’t want the remote or electronic keyed locks since everyone seems to have the same key for the locks or the remote ones fail. Simple is good.

As near as I can measure, and deducting the thickness of two moldings, about 1.480". That's for a Gen2 Lippert door, not a Gen1 molded door.

Simple is good. However, I think that you are looking for a solution to a problem that does not exist. Since becoming a member of this forum in 2012, I cannot recall ever hearing about someone who experienced a break-in or loss in their Escape trailer due to someone gaining entry with a duplicate key. Maybe my experience is different from others, but that issue is not one that I would bother with.

The door handle locks are all keyed with a master key for RV dealers, they don't lock the deadbolt just the handle that way salesmen can open every unit on the lot with the same key. The deadbolt has a unique key without the master key feature and no more likely to be the same as a house key. The door handles are also unique (keyed the same as the deadbolt) they are also secure unless someone has a master key. I agree with Dave and wouldn't recommend doing this.

I believe there is a sticker on the door somewhere with the manufacturer information. I would either call Escape and ask them, or call the manufacturer with the info from the sticker and have them tell you.
Good Luck!

Residential doors are constructed with thin stiles/rail around the perimeter of the panel (maybe 1" wide). The rest of the space is just foam sandwiched between two skins. The lock side stile is reinforced with an additional block (3-4" wide) only in the specific location where the handset/lockset and latches are drilled.

I suspect that RV doors are constructed in a similar manner. There might not be much in the way of structure inside the door panel to support a secondary deadbolt in any location other than where the factory handle is located.

If the primary concern is the existence of common/duplicate keys, I would think it would be possible have the existing locks rekeyed. It might also be possible for a locksmith to change out the lock cylinder in the handle for the same one used in the deadbolt.....to eliminate the master-key functionality.

I think that its all a moot point. If I was a criminal wanting to open RVs and steal stuff I'd carry one of my pry bars and pop the door open in a flash. What's a little damage when its not your property.
