I just paid my deposit on a 5.0, picking it up in early August. After a brief shakedown, I’ll be showing it off in Yellowstone. I really appreciate all the advice and recommendations I’ve found in these forums. Thank you all.

Congratulations, You got my favorite trailer.

Our 19 was just completed. The build sheet and all the correspondence with Escape was excellent. We pickup in May!

Congrats!

We pick our 5.0TA up in May. I bet you are really excited. We are!

Do you have a strategy for camping in Yellowstone yet? That is one of my favorite parks. I am curious as to how you intend to camp in the park with your new rig.

I have reservations in Grant Village for the last two weeks of August. I’ve never been to Yellowstone so any suggestions would be welcome. I back packed and tent camped in my younger days. So touring the national parks is high on my bucket list. I have been using a used 28 ft stickie for a couple of years and now know that RVing is what I want to do and also that a 28 ft stickie is too big. Looking forward to boondocking as well. I do have a couple of generators if the solar isn’t enough.

Here are a few Yellowstone tips.

If you are going to change campgrounds, make the change before 9 am. The roads get clogged up very early in the morning, making travel across the park a slow affair. Campgrounds fill up fast.

Generally the food in the restaurants is bad to horrible. Skip it. The one exception is the restaurant in Lake Village. But I have not been there in years.

Always bring bear spray when doing anything. Always.

If you like hot springs, my favorite is Chico Hot Springs, located 40 miles outside Gardner. Wonderful place, great 4 star restaurant, good deli, great bar but you need to make reservations to stay there about one year in advance. I drop in every time thru. My family loves to stay here.

Do not miss the geyser basins. Upper (Old Faithful) and do the board walk across the river. Middle geyser basin including Grand Prismatic Spring. The biggest one! And Lower Geyser Basin and the drive along the Firehole.

The Firehole river has the distinction of the entire river is contained in a volcano caldara. The entire river.

Lots of good fishing everywhere. I like the Gibbon and the Yellowstone rivers best.

Go to Artist Point just off Canyon Village. Don't miss this.

Dunravean Pass is the best place to watch for bears.

Everything towards the eastern edge is extreme grizzly habitat. The Absorka range is full of them. The camping on the eastern side (outside of the park, near Cook City) is hard shell camping only.

Don't miss Grand Teton National Park! These are just a few suggestions.

Thank you!! I didn't know about the Chico hot springs; I will definitely check it out. Also, I appreciate the info on travel times around the park. Thanks again for all your suggestions.

I seconded making time for the Grand Tetons! I've been to Yellowstone twice now, magical place both time, however the Tetons are my favorite. Less crowded, great hiking, and just beautiful. Either way you will have a great trip.

Don't discount the campgrounds long route 20 (East) in the Shoshone National Forest. Quite often much less crowded and accessible. Still allows you to make short trips into the different areas of the park. My wife and I have visited most of the National Parks and we learned early on to see the sights very early in the morning (6-9). You get less traffic, get to see more wildlife and LESS people.... Yellowstone is one of the busiest and the roads are narrow. Last time we were there, we were run off the road... Drive careful and enjoy.
