I just joined this forum. I can't for the life of me figure out how to post a new thread or question.

I am trying to buy a generator to run AC since we live in the South, and wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I bought a Generac 3500io, but it weighs more than I thought it would. I mainly need to run my AC during the day and night in the hot weather months when boondocking. I'm looking for the starting and running wattage of the AC unit or general generator recommendations. Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

For the best answer, you would need to supply your exact AC and it’s year.

Some have said they can carefully get their AC to work with with a Honda 2000, but usually not. The Honda 2200 usually works, but not always. A Yamaha 2400 works, I am told. Most generator manufacturers list the surge rating and then hide the run rating.

Noise is another big factor. I’ve camped near someone with a cheap generator and the volume can be outrageous.

A/C and generator

We have a 2016 E21 with the Dometic 1100 and it works with yamaha2400 for sure we bought a Cummins / Onan 2500 Genset because it only weighs 50 lb or so .The Yamaha is over 75 lb We added a soft start Basically a bigger Capacitor so it would always work The Cummins is 2500 surge and 2200 running its 1/2 the price of the Honda 2200 Good luck with your decisions Jim W
