I know a lot of us on the forum use BC campgrounds, whether to enjoy Beautiful British Columbia or use the parks on your way to lovely Alaska (still on my bucket list!!).

Today the BC Government announced increases to some of the camping fees to their provincial parks. What they also included was a flat fee for those of us who are living outside of BC (CAD$20) when you book your site.

More information can be found here: Camping fees | BC Parks

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Our popular parks have been at maximum capacity for quite awhile and our beautiful area does attract a lot of non-residents. I've never liked a two price system but the fee seems quite reasonable so I'm not personally against it.

Besides it's only on a fraction of the sites that are high use. There's hundreds of others, including rec sites, that we go to that won't have any extra fees.

Aren't most of the Recreation sites free? The ones we've stayed at in BC were. They're very basic but a great value and generally underused.

I think that there's at least 600 rec sites. The variation is enormous both in facilities and cost. They range from remote, zero facilities, accessible only by brute 4x4s to ones that look exactly like a provincial park. Costs range from free to a few bucks, it varies, but dirt cheap compared to provincial parks.

A couple of photos showing sort of rustic to looks like a provincial park.

BC has a generous cancellation policy compared to WA. This CAD 20 adds to a non-refundable portion of your payment (booking and cancellation fees).
WA can hold up to 50% of camping fees in case of cancellation.
