I'll be adding an indoor/outdoor thermometer to my 19' Escape and would like your thoughts of where to place and attach the remote outdoor sensor. Thus far I have ruled out double face tape and drilling into the fiberglass shell. Since the sensor should be out of direct sunlight I'm thinking of putting the sensor on the inside the tongue framework under the propane tanks or storage box -- any ideas for a better location? One idea that is intriguing is to mount the sensor to a small piece of metal and then either bolt the metal plate to the Escape or use a good quality magnet. This would allow for battery change. Again, I open for any better ideas for attaching the remote sensor. Thanks and see you all at Osoyoos!

I put mine in the ring on top of one of the propane tanks. It stayed in place for over 15,000 miles just sitting there; the problem is I went further than that!

Oh well, a replacement was only $5.00. It is now tied to the tank...

I zip-tied mine to the spare tire bracket upright. The tire protects it from the sun and it is reasonably out of the road spray. I will have to cut the tie off to install a new battery but that's okay. Be careful not to mount it where it will be isolated from the ambient air.

Mr. Rick how about mounting the sensor in the underside of the front rock guard. You might like a door bell. I would mount the exterior switch for the door bell near the left side of the trailer door.

I don't attach our remote unit anywhere. I just keep it inside the trailer and then set it somewhere outside that is shaded - depending on the site we are in. We also sometimes put it in the fridge while traveling to keep track of temps in the fridge.

What do you do about the outside temperature if the reading you get is too high or too low?

Either put another log on the fire, or go swimming. ;D

Like Eric, I have not permanently attached my sensor. I have fastened a looped string and hang it on the open awning bracket. I figure I will not forget to close the awning before departing so it will be obvious I need to stow the sensor as well. That is the plan anyway.

I like the ideas everyone else has provided, there are some nice options.

I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer... the outdoor sensor goes in the refrigerator. Nothing I can do about the outside temperature, but I CAN control the refrigerator temp!

For the outside temp, I carry a weather rock:
If the rock is wet, it's raining.
If the rock is dry and hot, the sun is shining.
If the rock is white, it's snowing.
If the rock is tipped over, it's windy.

"And that's the weather, whether or not."

I prefer Donna's method. ;D

As folks age, they seem to be more concerned with weather, and talk about it way more. I am trying to avoid this aging thing by ignoring the weather. ;)

I would be concerned about damage mounting it too low on the rig. You would be surprised what things are kicked up by tires. :)
