Insulating Rock Guard

We recently spent several nights in below freezing conditions and tried out our insulated rock guard. The night we forgot to put it down we had condensation and drips on the nonthermal front window but the nights we used it there were none. We got the idea from this forum. Thank you!

We used double sided tape, but may try something stronger now that we know it worked. No drips!

I just cut a piece of reflectix and inserted it between the cover and window, it does the job but I can not open the cover as it holds the reflectix in place, your way allows opening the guard. May do both next year.

Wouldn't the guard being closed offer more protection against the cold? And since you can't see out anyway, why keep it open? I must be missing something here.

That is pretty much the same foam that Escape uses for extra insulation.

I just put extra reflectix around the walls under the bed. I think I may have enough leftover for the rock guard. Thanks for the tip.

We open ours in day and the plastic really helps to insulate and get rid of the ugly wrinkling on the window cover a lot Pat

When I first saw the title to your post ... I though you were talking about that padded skirt those without a tongue box would get as a rock guard. I wonder if you could fit one on the front of the trailer even if you had a tongue box. If so, it would be a nice way to add additional insulation without adding much weight... especially if it was padded with the polyethylene foam .... mmmm

I liked your idea too of insulating the window rock guard. Great idea!

What I meant was my reflectix is loose between the cover and window, It would have to be removed when open and reinserted when closing. I just keep it closed but it would be nice to open in the winter if it isn't too cold.

I too insulated mine. During the day, especially when it is sunny I open it, but at night I keep it closed. It sure makes a difference with the added insulation and as has been pointed out strengthens it and prevents wrinkling of guard.

I use an old window shade (basically bubble wrap with reflective cover). Cut it to the size of the window. I slide it on as I'm closing the rock guard. Seems to work well plus it folds up very small for storage.
