IRVWPC2 Water Pump Controller

Thought I would start a new thread so it's easier to find this topic. Jack Sparrow posted about this water pump controller so I thought I would share my experience.

The IRVWPC2 water pump controller really does work very well. Once installed, my pump is quieter on low flow settings and the water comes out in a nice, even flow, just like at home. The device is manufactured in Canada so it's a good fit for an Escape. They claim the IRVWPC2 will extend pump life and reduces electrical consumption. Not sure if that's true but since we mostly boondock, this device will help reduce water use, at least for us. As you can see on the right side of the photo, the new version of this device is smaller, about 3.25" square and black, not clear. The website has good installation and troubleshooting videos.

The kit costs about $200 USD and comes with everything you need to connect it. If you have room to add an accumulator, that's probably the cheaper way to go and may be just as effective at both quieting the pump and evening the flow of water.

Basically the IRVWPC converts the pump to a variable speed pump. On my trailer I had a 30 psi pump. I discovered the IRVWPC could not control it and I finally replaced the pump with a 4008 series Shur Flo pump, which is set to 50 psi. I upped the IRVWPC setting (I have the original model) to about 34 psi and it regulates pretty well.

The foot spacing of the new 4008 pump was different than the old pump so I used a piece of 3/4 thick neoprene rubber sheet to mount the new pump on and picked up the existing screw holes in the floor to attach it to the floor. I hate putting extra holes in something if I can avoid it.. Original pump was 2 gpm at 30 psi max, and faced the other way where the adjustment or the pump head was inaccessible and the pump had to be removed to get to it. The neoprene pad spaced it enough to make the screen easy to remove.
