Hello from Las Vegas....
My name is Carol and I have been stalking the 19 since I first saw it last winter. It was love at first sight, and nothing else that I look at comes close. Last weekend I even went to Rice to give Casita a shot; that's not happening !!!

I currently have a teardrop and I will be camping in the California Redwoods, in just a couple weeks. It is only about another 750 miles up to Chilliwick, so my plan is to make that trek. And along the way I should be able catch a glimpse of the eclipse. I am a visual person and want to really experience opening cabinets, laying on the bed, standing in the bathroom, etc. Yes, my passport and checkbook are already packed.

I am planning to retire in October, get things in order (ha, ha...), pick up the new toy in April, and hit the highways by May. BTW, I am so excited, scared and confused.

Thank you to all who have encouraged me along this journey. I can't wait to join you at gatherings, etc, on the next phase of my ventures.

I too come from the ranks of teardrops. I think the 19 is a wonderful design and fully understand your interest. I chose the 17A plan as it gives the feeling of as much space of the 19 but the simplicity of a teardrop. No matter what design you choose, its really hard to make a wrong decision .... they are all great!

I find it is easier to modify my expectations than modify the trailer. Pick the trailer that fits your camping lifestyle .... either dreams or reality. Its all good.

The long and short is to ask a million questions ... but there is a price. Gain all the help you need ... no charge, but us land bound members really hunger for traveling stories ... no one keeps count.

Welcome Carol! We picked up our 19 last year and love, love, love it. You will too!!
Yes, they are small trailers,but you are going to be amazed what it all can hold. Might take a little to get everything organized, but once figured out, you end up with empty space in cabinets.
Lots to ponder about all options available, but at the end you will have a trailer you are going to be very happy with!

To lessen any worries about traveling alone, maybe you could start off with some short trips, so you're not far from home if it gets to be too much. Create a check list of everything you'll need inside the trailer and go through it before you leave. I have one for stuff needed and another for what needs to be done before I drive off (windows and vents closed, step up, etc, etc). This way you won't freak out if you forget something or you didn't do it (close a vent). I find checking things off on the lists to be reassuring.

Be very aware of your surroundings. If something seems a bit off, don't get out and keep going. Keep your doors locked. Pay attention to who's around you. The sort of thing you should be doing anyway, trailer or not.

I've traveled from Seattle to Lexington KY multiple times by myself over the years (before getting the trailer), as well as to Sacramento and beyond (once in a motorhome rental). With the trailer I've been to Coos Bay OR and back, as well as other places on my own, without any worries.

And there's always someone around the campsite that can help you if you have any problems. Like water hoses leaking cuz you can't get it tight enough. Or why you can't get your sewer hose in the ground hole (previous occupant had left the plastic part from their hose in and it was in there so tightly that it was rather difficult to get out; the guy next to me figured out what was wrong and fixed it for me - whew, as I didn't notice the plastic bit as it was the same color of the inlet tube).

And the more you travel in your trailer, the more confidence you'll have in yourself. ;D

Although I stopped by Quartzite briefly, last year, I may go down and spend a few days with you. Being in the teardrop, a lot will depend upon the weather. In the meantime I am sure that I will drop in and hit you with questions and updates.

Hi Carol! Sounds like you are well on your way! I too will be traveling alone...well guarded by Dexter the mini dachshund! My 5.0TA will be ready Sept 22 and I'll be driving from MA to pick it up. Flew out to the rally in May in Osoyoos and toured the factory in Chilliwack. I think you will find the trip to see the trailer models worthwhile! The foks in this forum were such a tremendous help throughout this process and made the wait bearable. Best of luck and hope to see you on the road.
