Greetings,

Our new to use 2010 19' kitchen faucet o-ring has fallen apart. I don't have the original manual for the faucet so not sure what size to get. Anyone know the make/model of the faucet from this generation so I can purchase the right o-ring?

Thanks!

Hardware store

Take the old ring into a real hardware store find an old guy who knows what he’s looking at. They should have an o ring kit with an adequate selection and be able to match yours. When you install it put a light coat of vasoline on it so it doesn’t gall when you reassemble it. Buy two, you’ll never have to use the second one and years from now you’ll come across it and say “I have no clue what this is to.”

Unfortunately our last real hardware store shutdown and all we have is box stores. Going to try to scope out a new one by the old 'looks like it's the same size' approach - what could go wrong.

Alternative

Sometimes auto parts stores have those kits too.
Or a place that makes up hydraulic hoses.

I read recently that Vasoline is harmful to O rings. I use a formulation specifically made for O rings. I have had it for many years and don't remember from whence it came. I think someone can suggest a suitable product.

I took Dave's advice and consulted an old guy in the plumbing aisle (me!) and I was able to find the right o-ring. The recommendation now is to only use silicon grease on o-rings so I picked some of that up as well.

In case any one else stumbles on this thread the o-ring size for this model tap is 9/16" ID x 3/4" OD x 3/32" WALL.

Cheers

I have to know

Did you just buy one or two.? On the old white gas Coleman stoves and lanterns there was an o ring associated with the gas cap. There was a time you could buy them out of a repair kit that Coleman sold to dealers. Once they quit servicing the kits the o rings ran out. My favorite hardware store had a retired fireman working there. He was tuned in and sniffed out all of the replaceable parts from sources other than Coleman including the o rings. He was also a former Scout leader and the word was out that he could help you out if your Coleman conked out. I just ran across a little envelope with two o rings for the gas cap in a parts cabinet in my garage. It did not have the ring dimensions on it, just what they went to. Glad you got it all figured out. You will forever be the o ring size resource guy.

Ha ha, my claim to fame 'that o-ring guy'. Yes, I bought two as trying to find another of these on the road would be a challenge.

I believe 'O-rings' are sized similar to screws and bolts. No matter how many you have in your bins, you won't have the one you need.

If you ever get out this way, my town has the oldest continuously operating hardware store west of the Mississippi. It's a really fun place to wander around, and they have those sliding ladders with shelves up to the ceiling for the guys to find stuff. The store's been there since the gold rush days.

One of the old timers spent 20 minutes one time finding the right marine bolt for my oar sleeve. It was ten cents.

As already mentioned, O-ring sizes are specified by any two of inside diameter, outside diameter, and thickness. I have a kit of many sizes from Princess Auto (there are inch and metric kits). I've only used a few of them, but even if I never use another one, having the right size when needed those few times made the kit worth buying.

Let’s write a book on O rings.
Chapters
1.History of the O ring
2. O rings for dummies
3. The technical side of O rings
4. Why O rings fail
5. O rings I have known
6. O ring kits, install tools and sealants
7. O rings of the future
8. The O ring Hall of Fame (Circleville, Ohio)
Should be a best seller in the camper
Maintenance section of Barnes and Noble.

Nothing, Tom Haberski is my friend and favorite author. He is the author of the best seller “The complete garage” and he also wrote the best seller Treasures of the St Vincent DePaul. I’ve read all his works. We even collaborated on “Maclura pomifera, the versatile hedge apple” one morning a few years back.

Collection

I do have a number of books but I keep them hidden in my man cave. I don’t want anyone to think I’m loopy when they see my copy of “The wire that fence the west, A history of barbed wire,” or my collection of Dutch oven and wild game recipe books including “Rough fish recipes” and my prize copy of “Lunkers live night crawlers”
