2011 17B my maxx fan started up on high while parked in my driveway. Unable to switch it off or slow it down. All buttons are unresponsive? It stopped when I flipped the battery switch to off but started again when I plugged in to shore power. Any suggestions what’s going on? Thank you!!

In that case you have to pull the fuse...it is a yellow 20A fuse in the WFCO Center. You'll have to use a phillips to undo the brown plastic face to access the fuses. No big deal.

....and what's going on is the printed circuit boards (PC:cool: on these fans are finicky. Hopefully resetting and not running at high speed right away will fix it. Otherwise a new board- and/or motor is the fix.

A lot of folks have had fan problems. Some have replaced the circuit board.

The circuit board is in a very high humidity location. When I had a similar problem I used a hair dryer to thoroughly dry the circuit board. It's worked fine since. Some have sprayed a water proofing material on the board.

There are a number of previous threads on the topic.

Yep I did the spray-on solution for the PCB, and then also added a toggle switch to be able to turn off the electric to it in case it happens again. I've never had to use it!

From Perry, tech service at Airxcell:

Check incoming vdc at the black(+) and white (-) wires coming from the ceiling. If it is outside a range of 10.3 to 15vdc the problem is in the vehicle, over voltage is common with lithium batteries and solar chargers. A voltage regulator is recommended.

Check the outgoing vdc from the PCB to the motor, when calling for fan. If the voltage is out of 10.3 to 15 the problem is either the PCB or the motor, if you disconnect the 2 pin plug and it is still out of range it is the PCB.

Thanks for the idea, I installed a toggle switch this evening as well! Easy solution (except for getting that wiring back into place before reinserting screws). :thumb:

For anyone who has difficulty getting the wiring back in place before “reassembling” the MaxxFan, a small piece of foam (similar to the foam used in cushions) can be wedged into the crack where the wiring goes and it will hold the wiring up making the job relatively simple. Leaving the foam inside will not cause any harm to the plastic housing.

Good tip

That’s a good tip Carl. There have been times I’ve struggled with holding things in place during reassembly.

I have a Maxxfan Deluxe 7500K here that is 100% functional, just old and a little noisy, and is available as a whole either to be installed or as parts for cheap. Its a circa 2014 model, but I've never had any issues with it when my Lithium converter is at 14.4V. I'm not sure I can find the remote. I replaced the lift/close gearbox once some years back. the inside of the hood is kinda grungy, could use a good cleaning. I replaced it with a new one prior to our big trip next year

Thanks for this info! I'm looking for a fan now. It seems that Maxxfan is still one of the best options.

Our Maxx Fan started beeping in the middle of the night on our inaugural trip (after getting our used 21C). Finally got it to stop, and since then have not used the Auto feature; just the On-Off, Speed, and In-Out switches. No further problems.

Think we need to start a list of ‘Escape Commandments’.

I’ll go first……”Thou shalt not press the Maxx Fan Temp button”.

Hi there, first time poster here. Maxxfan beeps 10 times and does not work. Tried shutting off all power. That worked for 5 seconds and then stopped & more beeping.

Escape folks suggested replacing the circuit board but how do you get the fan open? Remove the 4 square tip bolts?

thanks!

that sounds right. its accessed from the bottom aka inside the trailer... up topside, bolts on the sides are for removing the whole fan and hood thing after the inside flange is removed.

First thing that I'd do, and I have previously, would be to remove the cover and use a hair dryer or heat gun and thoroughly warm up the circuit board. It's susceptible to moisture and that's a high humidity environment. I've done this and ended using the board that I was about to replace.

We had the same problem. We ended up replacing the triangle shaped button panel and that fixed it.

As Ron said, drying it out really well would be a good first step. If that fixes it, spray the control board with conformal coating. That will seal the electronics and circuits so moisture and humidity is much less likely to affect it. If the board is bad, I'd put conformal coating on the new one. I have two Maxx Fans and I've treated both. Admittedly, We live in a dry climate so humidity is rarely a problem.

Our Maxx fan started beeping in the middle of the night. Not sure why, but we stopped using the Auto button, and it doesn't beep. If I were to replace it, I'd get the Fan-tastic Fan we had in our Casita—never a problem with that.
