I have been washing "Houdini" after our last trip. There was quite the crusted bug population on the front after 6 weeks. I wet the front down and let it set for a while, then sprayed the bug and tar remover on the collection, waited per instructions and then applied the sponge and elbow grease. This seems to work for about 80% of the remains, but there are crusty little bits left. More cleaner applied and more elbow grease but tiny bits still remained. What have others used to deal with these last remaining bits? I thought we could use one of those plastic "brillo" pads - the same you can use for non stick fry pans, but my wife insists that they scratched the fiberglass surface on our old Casita. I am hoping someone has a suggestion that will maintain the shiny surface of the fiberglass yet will not require four or six episodes of elbow grease per nit. Fingernails do ok, but there's a lot of bugs...
Also, the caulking around the vents on the roof have developed some extensive mold spots that resist my best scrubbing efforts. Any suggestions on that one? I guess one is to not worry about it... :) Thanks

Hi:Eddys... In the car business we used to use Baking Soda on a wet sponge. Really takes care of the bugs. I have done the nose cone of "Our Escape Hatch" a time or two!!! I heard that Vim Cream works well on chaulky fiberglass but have not tried it yet.
I suppose you had a collection of rare species from several States...we did too!!! ;D Alf

I have NOT used this, but it's been touted by several members on a couple of other fiberglass forums: http://www.rejex.com/rejex.html. It won't help your problem right now, but it would in the future. Actually the one individual I know that's using it has a 5th wheel Scamp. He was getting tired of getting out the tall ladder to scrub the nose of his trailer. He says this stuff works as advertised!

You could use a claybar on them, that seems to
remove all foreign objects from the paint surface.
Then a good coat of wax.

Straight from the world of motorcycle maintenance, try Pledge to remove the bugs. It seems to dissolve them easily without a hint of abrasiveness.

Thanks so much. I can't say that I'm rarin' to go out and clean him again, but after the next trip I'll report.
