I was a tent camper for over 50 years and always tried to be considerate of my neighbors. Last Memorial Day weekend, my wife and I were camping on Lake Mead as we towed our Escape home to North Carolina. I think we experienced where this prejudice against tent campers is coming from. There were tent campers, and there were "vacationers" sleeping in tents. With cheap tents and $10 per night campsites, we saw many families who were not regular campers and didn't respect their neighbors.

This seems to be more and more common. I have a bias against reservoirs like Lake Mead as they tend to attract the noisy boater crowds, people just having fun but some using alcohol to help out and thereby less sensitive to their neighbors. That's one reason I boondock exclusively and look forward to the new 15a to help me get out and away from everyone. Peace and quiet is what it's all about for me.

I agree. I've seen alot of problems at places like Mead, where city folk go out for a weekend of "recreation" that can sometimes be nothing more than an excuse to get drunk. My comments were aimed more at RV parks across the country, where many of them don't allow tent camping or they strictly separate tents from trailers.
