No, there is no way to control the compartments separately because there is a single cooling unit for the appliance.I wonder if moving the thermistor up/down is to adjust the relative cooling between the freezer and main compartment?
Some electronically controlled Dometic models (including the one in my motorhome) do not have an electronic adjustment, and use this thermistor positioning method for adjustment. It is explained by both a label on the interior of the refrigerator, and a section in the manual. If you slide the thermistor up the fins it sees a warmer temperature, so the cooling unit runs more, and so the refrigerator gets colder.I don't think moving the sensor up/down is to adjust the overall temp. All 'fridges I've seen have a knob/button for overall adjust. I hear there are some which don't adjust, thus the Dinosaur Dometic Thermistor Adjuster.
This sometimes does not give enough adjustment range, perhaps because the thermistor is not properly calibrated, and thus the need for the aftermarket tweaking device.
