New 4.3 & 6.7 fridge info

Since our's isn't built yet, I'm hoping that by the time it is, ETI goes with a different model of fridge. Hopefully, the "less energy efficient" models that are not for sale in the EU, or one with a 'tropical' climate rating. Barring that, I'd like to go with ac/dc. Seeing just how many owners in cooler climates have experienced the cooling issues, It's a sure bet these 85xx series won't work for South Texas.

We are thinking the same thing. South Florida is tropical-- temps are above 80F most of the time. It was 82 F at 11 pm last night. The current model of fridge..even if modified..will not work effectively.

Second that. South Louisiana is worse. It's hot and muggy here most of the year, except Dec thru March. Since my completion date is not until March 9, 2015, I'm hoping this fridge
Issue will be resolved by then.

Ours is due March 10th! Maybe we'll see you at ETI.

CatMike, we most certainly will meet at ETI next March. I read every word of this forum just to keep up, but this refer issue has me a little worried. However, Reace seems like the kind of guy we need on this issue.

I wonder what there are for options , it doesn't seem like there are many choices .
There are several Dometic models that are designed for hotter climates, with similar dimensions and capacities to the 85xx series. They include the Americana and the Classic series.

As an example of whats out there -- don't know if these models are available in Canada, but the Dometic Cool-matic series are designed to keep the freezer at a constant -18c and the fridge compartment between 5c and 7c, even when ambient temps are 43c. That'd work even in South Texas.

For anyone interested in these models, be aware there is no propane option.
Here are the specs for the largest - CoolMatic CR-140 - (and I have not converted it to cubic-feet).

Gross capacity: approx. 136 litres including 11.5-litre freezer compartment.

Voltage:12 / 24 volts DC and 100 – 240 volts AC.

Average power consumption: approx. 65 watts.

Power consumption: 2.3 Ah / h at +25°C ambient temperature 2.6 Ah / h at +32°C ambient temperature both at +5°C interior temperature and –18°C in the freezer compartment.

System: Fully hermetic Danfoss BD50F compressor with integrated control electronics, low-voltage protection, electronic fuse / automatic reverse pole protection, dynamically ventilated wire tube condenser, mechanical, continuously variable thermostat.

Ah, no wonder they perform so well in high temps. Thanks for clarifying Alan.

One issue for Escape, is finding a fridge that fits through the door opening. There are very few that do.

Jim B...you hit on something o so important. Casita Travel Trailer had to go to a larger rear window in order to get the Dometic refrigerator model chosen for production in and out of their unit.

I also wonder about overall height . Looking at the 6.7 in our 19 there isn't much room above or below it. I suspect Eti has done a lot of home work on this .

I have been trying to reach an old colleague who worked for Dometic in Luxembourg some years ago. Last week I was able to track him down. I told him about the issue with inadequate cooling on the RM 855x fridges, and we also discussed the climate class, tech specs, etc.

I know this is only hearsay, but he insists that the 8 series fridges are made with different cooling units depending on the climate class required and the market they are sold in.

So a "tropical" rated RM8551 and RM8555 series should be available. The fact that the Dometic reps don't know this is saddening.

It is, and to see all the lengths people are going to in an effort to make the fridge work in warmer climates, when more suitable ones were available. I think this situation could end up getting nasty if enough people realize that they were sold a fridge that wasn't suitable for its' intended use. I'm in "wait and see" mode on this.
I hope the factory takes a close look at this situation.
