New 4.3 & 6.7 fridge info

As always, I try to put myself in the customers' shoes. I too would not be happy with a new trailer that has a glorified ice box!
The booster looks like it mounts in-line to the existing thermistor. It has a couple of quick connect plugs on each end which this fridge does not have. It also did not come with instructions, so I took the easy route...for now.

On a side note, I let Mike from Smart RV Products know where things were and he mentioned that he has seen fridges installed with 6" gaps behind them freeze food in the fridge in the Arizona summer. He agreed that the baffle is not the solution and that approx. 35% of all thermistors are bad (or not set correctly) right out of the box. Hmmm...I just need to figure out how to test them before I install them now!

My positive experience with our 6.7 cu ft also leads me to believe that the issue is not related to the baffle. I think that you may be on the right track looking elsewhere for the issue. Keep up the good work.

I agree with Ice breaker that the varied outputs of these fridges makes me think its a fridge problem not a install problem . Also I don't buy into the fact that absorption fridges are not up to the task and they have been working well for years .

How many wires are on these thermistors? I must admit I have not seen the one that dometic uses. A thermistor is a reasonably simple device, basically a resistor that changes resistance with temperature change . some are positive coefficient some are negative. They can be tricky to test though as they can test ok in one temp range and go out of wack as the temps change and it can be tough to replicate all the temps required to verify its working properly.

Well, on the plus side, the fridge temp is set on one bar...yes, one bar and it is 1 C in the fridge. Inside trailer temp this am was 16 C. Sounds good, but now I am unsure if the thermistor is stuck in the on position. I will continue to play with it...

Is it possible to retrofit the new vent cover to older models...or is the shape of the cutout totally different?

In Donna's case she was talking about her Scamp, not an Escape. It had a larger vent with different louvers.

Yes, I know. But our older model Escape has the metal louvers...two places:
An upper about 13x23 and the one that opens down below about 9x10.

We do have the added fan behind the fridge and could open the lower vent, but anything that would help in our hot NM temps would be welcome.

I believe the metal to be a better option for those in high UV areas. Years from now, some of us are going to be looking for a replacement for the plastic ones...

Try 303 protectant Donna. Works wonders. Prevents almost 100% of UV breakdown and oxidation. Have used it on all my vehicles and a ski boat for many years now, and the results are excellent.

I'll check that out Robert, thanks. I was thinking of painting with Fusion. But the 303 may work just as well and be easier to use/apply?
