New Escape 19 in Pennsylvania

Does Canada have a town called Despair? We were in Hope. The scenery from Harrison Hot Springs north and east went from great to better and better.

I had Reace install an outside shower on the door side, approximately where the stove is with the intention of using it to do dishes or to rinse off sandy feet after a trip to the beach. It works well for that purpose, and would be low enough to wash the dog. I also used it once to take a shower (had a bathing suit on). The hose is coiled, and I store it in the optional storage compartment that opens into the space under the dinette seat on the passenger side. The nozzle, however, is a joke. I trashed mine and bought a shower head that could be used on dishes or bodies, furry or otherwise.

Here is a photo of the hose. We replaced the nozzle with a good garden nozzle. Since the end is standard hose fitting, we can attach it to anything using that. I have put it through the bathroom window and connected it to a wand to clean out the black tank. I was wondering, too, if we would use it, but the hose connection has proved very valuable.

To use it, just push the end into the connection and it connects. To release, grab the ring around the end and push it in.

Why would I want to do that. Fur keeps things warm, including food.

This one is a similar idea, but with a much smaller access hatch. The mixer is part of the hose, but I don't think there is a volume control.

I see what you mean - it doesn't look like there is a flow volume control. I hope the hose is replaceable, without replacing the control.

Always interesting seeing the lists, two couples very similar.

There is a toilet valve cut-off that is only a few dollars that you both might want. Allows you to use the trailer if something happens to cause the toilet to leak, so that all of your water does not go down the shower drain.

There is an LED indicator light that shows the water heater propane is on.

Our 19' is going to be ready in early January. We're driving from Maine to get it. I'm a bit nervous about the trip, given the time of year. But, if we have to, we'll lay low for a couple days if a storm hits.

We're thinking we might go north, above Lakes Huron and Michigan and below Lake Superior. Will be interested to hear what you all plan to do.

We're also towing with a Highlander (2010). There are two or three folks on the forum towing 19s with Highlanders.

We tow with our 19 with a Highlander! The funny thing last summer was that we got better mileage in the mountains than on the straightaways because we slowed down so much! But we're very happy with it.

You will not regret the dual 6V choice. We also got the outside shower. Only had one once and used the heck out of it, especially when beach camping. Can't wait to see both of our new 19's at Q.

Dittos Greg on the dual batteries. Good to have both for cloudy day insurance and to allow for future uses, too. A dead or low battery can sure kill the camping buzz.

Anne and Dan, We probably are a bit crazy for planning to get our new Escape 19 in January, but then again I figure trucks cross the country all year long and are not nearly as stable as an all wheel drive Highlander. Much like Dolly, we'll give ourselves a couple of extra days for the drive out to Chiliwack (without a trailer) in case the weather looks bad. We'll also keep a very close watch on the weather ahead each day. We plan to take a central route on I-70 to Salt Lake City and then head Northwest. Once we pick up the trailer, we'll head due south into California. We understand the weather in Washington and Oregon will be quite mild (upper 40's by day, upper 30's by night). Of course, we'll have to miss the beautiful mountains. Then we'll spend February and March in southern Arizona and New Mexico, arriving back home by the beginning of April. We figure by the time we're done, we'll be experts at all forms of travel and camping with our new trailer.

You may have to take the "southern route" I40 at that time of year, I70 can be closed anywhere from Kansas thru Colorado due to snow. Unlike here on the east cost where the interstates are maintained in the winter, out west they close the interstates via large gates at the entrance ramps during foul weather rather than maintain the road in snow.

Don't know what dates you'll be coming through Oregon, but several of us are camping at Champoeg Heritage State Park (just south of Portland) the weekend of January 14-17... it's a Notta NOG. You're welcome to join us. (And that goes for anyone else too!)

I was just studying the map for the Southern route. It looks further at first but really isn't too bad especially if we can move along without snow delays. Thanks for the tip.
